Just came back from a Halloween party at The Hook and Hatchet in Hucking. Our kids, aged between seven and ten, had an amazing time. We booked dinner, and the party started at five with a high-quality disco and games for the kids.
They gave our kids a party bag on arrival, which was a really nice touch, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The party games were brilliant. I would highly recommend this evening to anyone with kids who enjoy Halloween parties! Plenty of candy was given out throughout the evening, and even some at the bar. It’s great to see a pub host such a fun event for kids. At 8 o’clock, it turned into an adult party.
We also come here often for breakfast on the weekends. It’s one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had, offering great value for money and wonderful surroundings. If you have a dog, it’s completely dog-friendly, with great walks on your doorstep in the estate. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Well done, guys!
Tonight I had one of the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Jasmine and Jack behind the bar were so welcoming and polite towards us. The menu was proper pub food but when it appeared was on another level. There was six of us, four adults my two year old and my 7 month old. I had fish and chips which was sublime, my wife had chicken burger which she also said was delicious. My friend had gammon egg and chips and his wife had steak and ale pie. All made in the kitchen from scratch, the pastry on the pie was lovely and my friend said he was delighted with his meal. Although we had two children with us the staff and owners were so lovely when my daughter went for an unannounced wander round the pub almost treating her like they had known her for ages. All in all a really nice evening, great meal, lovely atmosphere and staff were welcoming. If I could give ten stars I would
Kid-friendliness: High chairs were readily available plus the kids menu has colouring on the back. What a great idea
We stumbled across this fantastic pub by accident really, it is a bit off the beaten track... but now is one of the best roast dinners we've ever had in Kent. We really couldn't fault the service (all the staff were really attentive and friendly), the interior of the pub was lovely and the Sunday roast and pudding selection and value for money was amazing. This is a real hidden gem!
Kid-friendliness: We had a 6 month year old and the staff gave us a high chair, asked if he wanted a biscuit and was generally just really friendly with him
Always good.
Lovely traditional English pub. Took the dog with us and had a nice lunch before heading for a walk in the Woodland Trust property next door. Lovely food, the chip were especially delicious. Really friendly staff, and free dog treats on offer so pooch was happy!
Absolutely amazing! Went on another person's review. And was not disappointed. Best calamari I've ever had at a pub and the fish and chips also exceptional! My daughter also said the tomato and basil soup of the day was the best she's ever had. Love all the outside space and all over very dog friendly. Friendly staff. Amazing food. Amazing setting! Would highly recommend!
I had the Piri piri chicken burger, it was tasty but very thin and not filling seem more like a childs burger the tomato was thicker that the chicken was. Apart from that would recommend to all. Staff are excellent, attentive and welcoming
Great local pub
Fab venue great service. Beaut Sunday roast and acres and acres of gorgeous land to explore after you eat. We keep coming back
This place has changed a lot over the years and definitely for the better. Previously it wasn't strange to see a dog doing it's business on the floor next to diners. Doesn't have that vibe to it now thankfully!
A warm and welcoming rest stop after a long country walk with a group of 15. Accomodating us all with coffee was no bother at all.
Photo is me in the gents, and yes, I had washed my hands.
The stage in the garden looks permanent so I'm sure they have live music too.
I rated 0 stars for food as I didn't have any!
Parking: Free parking next to the pub

Popped in for Sunday roast. We hadn't booked, but they found us a table even though they were really busy. A great atmosphere, great food, generous portions and a good price.
I didn't eat here but we had a great night out. Friendly staff, good beer, good music.
Wow how disappointed. We went on day last week was fab ( ploughmans. Pie and veg brillant). we went for Sunday lunch, wow Yorkshire was burnt and been kept warn ,( couldn't eat it ) cauliflower cheese so hard you could cut it, 1 small bowl.of veg for 5 ... meat you couldn't cut, roast potatoes was so hard couldn't cut .. gravy poured over to cover the food .. i had chicken breast ( came it was horrible the taste )
So £128 wasted.
also menu on Line didnt seem to be the same as the one given on the day
We had soft drinks ... no zero drinks only diet coke
We came across this pub by chance, and we are so glad we did! The pub offers gluten free options as our daughter is coeliac. Absolutely beautiful setting, the owner is so friendly & the staff attentive! The food was so good too! The portion sizes are fab & the food so tasty! Lots of drinks to offer too. We’ve found our new favourite pub! Thank you for a lovely evening
Kid-friendliness: Colouring packs and pencils provided for the kids
Food ok. Good service. Friendly obliging staff. Showers and toilets very clean and tidy. Camping area was tidy, grass well cut, pitches are a very good size. Nice marked walks on Hucking Estate.
