Mavericks was brilliant. Food and service were amazing. Bottomless brunch and the drinks were certainly bottomless.

Yes it was amazingly convenient and yes we got into the car park, thats where the good stuff finished. The hotel reception area was filthy and the carpet throughout was filthy and stained. The receptionist who was vey helpful took us to our room which was big and had newish carpet but the decor was over tired and the furniture was sparse. She told us to keep our windows shut otherwise we would end up with a room full of pigeons. The smell in the corridors leading up to our room was like walking through a glue factory, stagnant fish best describes it. There was chewing gum wrapped in the net curtains. We had to ask for toilet roll as we had only been allocated half a roll. It became apparent that the top floor was occupied by more permanent residents and the one directly above us was weight training or something similar involving throwing heavy objects around the floor for several hours each night!! On booking out we went to the car park and the black bin bags had been ransacked over night, the contents of which were strewn everywhere so we had to walk through a selection of mouldy kebabs and other various attractive items I'd rather not name. Very sad that this once beautiful building has been left in such a sorry state and sad that they are still allowed to advertise using hideously out of date photographs.

This "hotel" has 2 things going for it: Courtney (receptionist) and its location. It's right at the end of the High Street so it's really central. That's where the good things end. This place is run down it's a hovel; it's a shame as it's a 400 year old building steeped in history. It could be beautiful but the owner is unwilling to spend money on it as he says "it can't be that bad as people are booking in". At £204.60 for a 3 night stay it wasn't worth the money! We originally were staying on room 14 but that was less accessible for me and my sister so we had to change. Even if you are told this hotel is accessible, it's not, there are so many stairs and quirky turns. This can be forgiven but there is no excuse for it being so dirty and neglected. The carpets are so stained and dirty please wipe your feet on the way out. There are no mattress protectors - I daren't look at the mattress itself as I was scared of what I might find! The pillows are so flat that a hamster has more stuffing in its cheeks than these pillows. The duvet cover is bigger than the duvet so someone doesn't get much duvet; not a problem for us as the room was stifling hot. The bathroom had a great bog cobweb in it, a cracked sink, a rusty toilet roll holder and a rusty towel rail. The water from the shower was pitiful - it only came out of 3 holes; you couldn't change the setting on the shower head as it was stuck solid with grime. The 3 window sills were full of dirt and bird poo; they haven't been cleaned yet this year by the looks of it. The bannisters and newel post outside room 14 are dire - you can literally scrape the dirt off them. The towels were miniscule, and they were hard and off white - they have been around a while! I was bitten on sat night, then on Mon morning I saw a flea jumping around in the bathroom, I did advise reception that room 14 needs fumigating. So when I say it's a flea pit, it is - literally!!! I could go on and on but I don't have the time to waste, just look at the photos I've posted. If you can't find any other accommodation in Rochester, try Strood, Chatham or even a park bench - anywhere but here!!!

Needed a place to stay in Rochester for two nights….did not need anything fancy but The Victoria is taking budget to a new LOW level! First off the location is good, right in the town…but this is where the positives end unfortunately. 1. There is parking but it is very limited…I ended up having to park very far away. 2. Receptionist polite enough however only been working there since Monday and didn’t have a clue how anything worked, the place is like maze and was not shown to room. She also showed no interest in the fact our tv wasn’t working, not able to help in the slightest. 3. Communal areas dirty and smelled awful, lots of stains on carpets. 4. Room very tired and dirty, bed and headboard disgusting, bed looked burnt or like a rodent had been gnawing at it, carpet in room stained, cobwebs everywhere, TV not working (receptionist informed me there was not maintenance guy available and couldn’t contact owners) no privacy in bathroom (window films only went half way, people can see in), rotten woodwork in bathroom, cracks in walls…this list could go on forever. Even though the price per night isn’t expensive you still except the place to be clean, maintain privacy and the amenities on offer to actually work! I would not recommend staying here!

Perfect base lovely surroundings. Beautiful room spacious clean the bathroom really big with double sinks & beautiful bath the bed was huge & comfortable I absolutely loved the room & at an amazing price. Staff friendly the only down point to this hotel is the dated decor carpets need a change but apart from that a 4* clean comfortable stay would definitely stay again

Such a shame as this hotel has a lot of history and it’s all been let go , the rooms look tired and unkempt , some of hotel walls and ceilings are mouldy , the entrance looks like A designated smoking area ☹️Disregarded cigarette ends no outside ashtrays The reception looks tired and unwelcoming

This hotel is cheap and centrally located, with some free parking on a first come first served basis. Facilities are minimal, with no bar or restaurant, but there are plenty of eateries yards away in the High Street. Our room was clean, with working TV and kettle/teabags etc. The hotel overall was somewhat run down, but everything in our room worked. The hotel is unmanned after 8pm, so you are given your own front door keys. It's nothing like as bad as many of the reviews say.

We arrived at the hotel and was hit with bleach fumes! Walked up the stairs … the carpet was so dirty and stained on every step… then the room! The window was help open by a plastic bottle, the door didn’t fit in the door frame, the whole room was filthy and the bathroom was on a hill! The bathroom was filthy and in need of some repairs! The room itself was dusty and grubby!

Very pleased I tried this out, great vibe

Good ambience, but not as lively as expected. They need a relevant DJ to pull the crowd in. Friendly staff and lovely decor.

Firstly let me confess that I read the previous reviews of this hotel before booking it. The reviews were critical but I am happy to say that I have nothing but the highest praise for the hotel and the staff. The room was large and clean and the beds were very comfortable. The shower was powerful and easy to adjust. There was a superb view overlooking both the castle and the cathedral. The staff were friendly and attentive and quickly resolved a couple of minor issues. The fact that the room cost just £22.50 per night (no breakfast included) is truly remarkable value for money. So I would recommend the hotel without hesitation and would more than happily stay there again.
