Pubs in Tunbridge Wells
“Last Friday, a dear friend booked a dinner for us at this restaurant. Three couples were booked for 8 pm, and we arrived 15 minutes early. The decorations and ambiance were welcoming. James, our server, politely informed us that our table wasn't ready because other guests were still dining. We went to the bar and had a drink. Our table was ready by 8:20 pm, a bit later than expected, but we didn't make a fuss.We ordered still water and a red wine, Saint Clair New Zealand Pinot Noir. For starters, we ordered various dishes, and I opted for the ravioli with mushroom and English truffle. Keep in mind that English truffles have a subtle flavor, working well when you want a touch of truffle without overpowering other ingredients. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of this until I tasted it, and it turned out to be quite tasteless. English truffle won't be my choice again. We enjoyed several delicious main dishes, and I decided to go with a bottle of Stellenrust SIMPLICITY SHIRAZ: CABERNET SAUVIGNON-MERLOT, recommended by James. I chose the slow-cooked lamb (10 hours), but, apologies to James, due to excessive seasoning, the classic lamb flavor was overshadowed, making it taste more like beef.Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I'd love to return, but I'll steer clear of the lamb next time.Nick”
“Old English village pub with a mid-high end Thai restaurant tucked inside! The food cooked by Gai is exceptional and unsurpassed by anything we've eaten in Thailand. What an absolute gem the Red Lion is....one evening you'll get semi professional fusion jazz from a band who are on the eve of their European tour and the next week an acoustic sibling duo. I almost don't want to post this because it's really special and i don't want it to get too crowded but then, that's just selfish.....!!”
“First time I've ever been to this pub, and found it very welcoming, the landlady was lovely and chatty, so was some of the customers that I stood by waiting to be served, I would definitely recommend, it's really relaxed and has a good atmosphere, will definitely be returning for a nice cold beer.”
“We had a family wedding here today and Richard and his team went above and beyond to make sure the day was amazing. We are all local to speldhurst and it’s lovely to see the pub in such good hands , thank you .”
“Little gem, tucked away down a quiet lane. Lovely, friendly atmosphere & nicely decorated. Well priced food & drink. Barman happy to chat, all good!”
“Local pub with outside area. Friendly landlady. Be a bit careful about bringing in dog.”
“Really authentic old pub with a great crowd and friendly landlord. Great range of beers. Has a real community feel and was welcoming when we went”
“Lovely friendly pub. Wonderful curry night, great service (with a smile), really good value and the food is delicious. Curry Night is a regular treat for us!”
“I haven’t tried the food yet but it’s our go to when it comes to very good cocktails. Lovely atmosphere and very nice and friendly staff. Absolutely recommended”
“Great craft beer bar with an excellent selection of keg, cask and bottled beers. The selection of beers is well chosen and reasonably priced. Service is friendly. The cask beer is well kept. I prefer the layout and atmosphere at the Tonbridge bar as it feels more spacious. However it's well worth popping in here if you love good beer.”
