A lovely warm welcome to us all whilst celebrating our Daughters birthday. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, always smiling and very helpful. Chef adapted the food for my Wife who is coeliac and lactose intolerant and prepared a real treat for her. Our family hadn't been to the Sparrowhawk before as they live away, they have left with a great impression. Thank you to all the staff, it's been a wonderful afternoon with great food and many memories made.

Avoid this place like the plague rude staff was brought a chicken burger which was full of bones only to be told it was a French chicken breast which do have bones in them. So why is this not stated in the menu?Well if I’d have known I wouldn’t have ordered as have a phobia of them so asked for my uneaten food to be removed quietly. We asked for the bill as I was hungry and asked them to take this meal of the bill to be told by the rude mangeress whatever she was that it was meant to have bones in as it’s a French breast of chicken well like I said to the other person it should be stated on the menu. Anniversary meal ruined and will never visit again

Shirley and team were very welcoming, attentive and professional on a very busy night. Ate from the festive menu: both had prawn starters which had lovely, succulent prawns in a rich and tasty sauce; all presented very nicely. We both had the turkey dinner and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Generous portion sizes, great potatoes, rich and delicious gravy and lovely vegetables (extra vegetables for both of us which were well cooked but seemed over generous-one between two would have sufficed) Cheese plate was amazing (we shared between us) Had a singer doing acoustic vocals and he was excellent. All round great evening and experience as usual! We will obviously be back! Well done and keep up the amazing work!

When we are visiting Burnley the Sparrow Hawk is our pub of choice. Last night we visited with friends new to the area and they were very impressed with the pub and their meal. My husband is a vegetarian and said his was the best vegetarian pub meal he'd ever had. Excellent service too - with a smile. Many thanks.

Food was lovely and quickly served. Waitresses were friendly and chatty and recommended dishes which was nice. I would recommend booking a table though, we had and when we entered there was lots of locals at the bar area and I don't think we would of got a table if we hadn't of pre-booked.

Me and my mum went for a drink on a Saturday afternoon as the weather was lovely. We sat in the garden out at the front and I had a look at the menu and decided I wanted to order some Brie bites off the bar snacks menu. These cost me just shy of £7 and when they came out I was shocked at the portion size! I had TWO, triangular shaped bites in a ramekin with salad piled up underneath to make it seem full. The cranberry sauce / jam was lovely and the bites were nice but it was an absolute joke to be served only two for £6.95. When my mum went in to mention that we were disappointed, the lady who looked like the manager on shift said “yes, two” when my mum said was that really how many we get, and then turned her back on her. There was no offer of any sort of apology, apart from the waitress who was apologetic and said it had actually already been mentioned before! If this is the case - why has nothing been done about it already? A really poor overall experience and we won’t be coming back for any main meals. Really sad as my mother used to come frequently when she was younger and really enjoyed it.

Lovely place to eat everyone really pleasant food very good. You can sit outside if nice weather. Easy to just walk in without booking and nice scenery.

We came for a family Sunday lunch on a lovely sunny day, the kind of day this pub is made for, with its lovely beer garden and food. We had a lovely meal (decent pub fayre) and the service was good, but a little slow. What surprised and saddened me was how tired the place was looking. Paint peeling off, scratty carpets, locks broken from toilet cubicle doors, soap dispensers that weren't working, manky chaise lounges in the ladies bathroom. This place used to be beautiful, a real treat to come to. Whilst the food remains good, the overall experience now lacks shine, and unless you're able to sit in the beer garden, I can see why people aren't bothering anymore. It just doesn't feel as special anymore. I fear unless they have the money and wherewithal to give it a spruce up, it'll be closed within a year.

Scampi came dry and with no tatar sauce as on the menu, pigs in blankets we got 4 £1.50 each, very average. Steak pie was OK nothing special chips and gravy made up for it, salt and pepper chicken kebab was to small for the price 4 bits of chicken on a stick, would we come again probably not, just average pricey food. Waitress to buy yapping on about majorca than looking at us waiting to pay.

My husband and I had lunch at The Sparrowhawk today and both our meals were delicious and nicely served. I had lamb shoulder with ratatouille and crushed new potatoes, and my husband had salt and pepper chicken kebab with chips, coleslaw, harissa dip and salad. I have Coeliac and am also unable to have dairy which always restricts my choices but the chef was good at accommodating my dietary needs. There's a large car park and seating outside.

The pub was not at all busy and we got a table quickly. Drinks took a while to come and waiting on staff just stood about whilst part of the bar was full of dirty glasses. Ordered food which took over 40 minutes to come. When it did the pigeon was dry and severely overcooked. My pie was also over cooked but I ate it as hungry. My partner mentioned the pigeon issue to the waiter but told him not to take away as she was hungry. We ate food and I paid the bill in full (£1 for a dash of pumped lemonade!) told staff again of issues and said “well it is what it is isn’t it” she said “ yes” I didn’t ask for a discount as we ate the food but fat end of £50 for a main and starter with 2 alcoholic drinks each would have been ok if the food was better. Staff clearly didn’t care. Customers behind us were also complaining but got sorted. Just won’t come back that’s all.
