Great place for some really good food.Good choice of beers and the food, although limited, is very good. Don't take limited as a bad thing, I'd rather places make quality food rather than a huge choice. Having said that, the choice was really good and there's something for everyone.Staff are friendly and helpful, but I do feel they could be a little more attentive to you at your table.

First time dining at The Ranken despite living just over half a mile away. In fact it was for me a first time visit and it is what it says on the tin 'a friendly pub'/eatery in the heart of Hoddlesden village, on entering the atmosphere & decor is warm & comfortable and I was shown to table with a genuine welcome. Once seated and extensive menu perused I chose the cheese & onion pie with beans & chips, (there are many adventurous dishes on offer but i chose a popular favourite knowing that I could compare it to a multitude of other eateries in the area in which I have partaken of the same dish). It was the perfect choice as it was THE BEST cheese & onion pie I have ever tasted, the plate was adorned with a generous portion of REAL home made chips ( a rareity now-a-days) and a side bowl of beans excellently and professionaly served with a smile. For pudding I chose apple crumble served in a jar with a little pan of custard on the side, It was quite simply divine. Brava to all at the Ranken I look forward to a return visit very soon.
