Really poor experience on Saturday. Table was booked in advance and I was a few mins late, the rest of the table had already been seated right next to the smoking door (not the only seat available), which meant kids and adults where in and out constantly during our meal, along with the passive smoke through the door. The restaurant had 2 or 3 dogs inside which also made the place stink of wet dog (this is the restaurant, not the bar).Service was slow and after delivery of the food, stopped completely. At no point did anyone check our food was ok or offer additional drinks. The two stars I gave were for the 2 pies that 2 of the group had - they both enjoyed them. I had the fish which was dreadful - massively overcooked on one side and soggy on the other - there was also a random pineapple ring stuck to the bottom of the fish, god knows how long that had been floating in the fryer. The chips were also very very salty and Luke warm. My daughter had a kids pizza which looked like an ASDA 99p pizza for the bargain price of £7.Food was expensive, service was slow, the environment unpleasant. It became apparent around 5pm that the local drinkers had arrived, therefore took priority over the restaurant customers.I'd wanted to try this place for a while, but what a disaster this truly was. Even on paying we were not asked about the food or experience - If I was paying it would have been raised, but as my MIL volunteered to buy I let it with her.Not recommended.

We have just been in to The Bricklayers for an impromptu meal out, and although we hadn't booked a table, the waitresses were able to accommodate us. All of the staff were very friendly, took our drinks orders, informed us of the specials of the soup/pie/fish of the day. Everything was spot on!

Possibly the worst roast dinner I’ve ever been served. One piece of broccoli, 3 slices of carrots, two hard, barely roasted potatoes and who knows what dumped on top of it all as a “vegetarian option”. It was bland and tasteless and I didn’t eat it. To charge the same amount as the meat option was an insult. Not the serving staff’s fault, they were friendly and helpful.
The best Sunday roast around. ? we have always found the food good here.

First time here despite living in the area for many many years. We really enjoyed it. The staff were very polite and efficient. This was a really strong part of the appeal. We were pleased with our meals and the price was quite reasonable. We particularly liked the main bar area which was warm and cosy. The wine was very good. We will certainly return as it is nice to have food that has not been “cooked”in a microwave. The full car park was a testament to just how popular this place has become.
