Booked this for our Annual Family Christmas lunch. We were shown to the room upstairs. There were 10 of us including a 4 Yr old and a 1 Yr old so this was just perfect. The children were able to make as much noise as they wanted and we didn't need to tell them to sit down as there were no people in the room for them to upset. The food was really lovely including the children's menu. Most of us had the Roast Pork which was very tasty. My only complaint would be no crackling!!!! The staff were very attentive but also knew when to leave us to ourselves. We were not rushed and were able to stay upstairs for as long as we wanted. A really fantastic family gathering.

We’ve been to the White Horse many times over the years being a local favourite of hours. Our most recent visit however was not their finest hour! We were a group of 6, we got seated an hour after our booking time. The service (all round) was poor, the waiting staff didn’t seem to have time to take our orders, walking off before we had chance to finish! The vegetables for our mains came out around 15min after the mains themselves were served. There was more coffee in my saucer than in the cup. I’m made a comment about it but no apology, just a quip from the waiter! The final straw was we were given the wrong bill. All round, service poor however food was good (hence the 3 stars)

We made a reservation for a family Christmas meal for six (4 adults and 2 children). The food was fantastic, excellent quality, tasty and cooked to perfection. The four adults all had turkey and it was lovely - perfectly cooked. We all had crackers, hats and party poppers. The service was exceptional. So pleased we chose to come here.

We choose the white horse in Baston to have a meal with friends. I had the fish and chips which was delicious especially the batter and curry sauce, i would definitely recommend this. My partner and one of our friends had the steak which was disappointing as it came with a pile of green lettice no other salad, A large mushroom and a small ramekin of chips (very few chips) I have added a photo of the 'cheese board' which I think you will agree isn't worth the £11 they are charging! 4 crackers, a chunk of apple, a few slivers of celery..no butter or grapes etc honestly shocking as this is something we often order elsewhere and never looks like this so i complained to the manger who refunded us one of our two cheese boards. A real shame as we've had lovely meals here in the past that have been worth the money spent but not this time. Given 3 out of 5 and not lower because this is a beautiful pub and we did have good service by the youngsters who served us.

I booked the function room at the White Horse for my parents' Golden Wedding anniversary meal and the occasion was fantastic in every way. The room itself (which I was unaware existed until recently) is a great space, tastefully decorated and with its own private outdoor patio. Simon, the manager, and his team went out of their way to make sure the evening worked well for us, from providing us with a bespoke menu to arranging the furniture to accommodate us all (there were 23 of us, including several children). I brought a lot of my own decorations, but the pub put flowers and candles on the tables, which I thought was a lovely touch. We made use of the TV in the room to display our slideshow of family photographs. The meal itself was excellent - we had several options for starters, mains and desserts. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food - I heard many positive comments about it. Speaking for myself, the Salmon Gravlax starter and Sea bass main were delicious! The pub also provided plates and cutlery for the cake that we had brought with us. All in all, we had a wonderful evening and couldn't have found a more perfect or welcoming venue. Would highly recommend!

We dropped in on the off chance for Sunday lunch and we’re shown a table straight away. We both chose the beef and a side of cauliflower cheese. The beef was melt in the mouth tender and served slightly pink. Roast potatoes, parsnips and a large carrot - all cooked beautifully. A huge Yorkie and a bowl of really fresh vegetables. All was fabulous. Will definitely be back, Thankyou

Where do I start…Come to the establishment and it has became my local I come to as everything is on point from the food the drink to the staff they are all spot on always have been and always correct anything if it goes wrong (rarely) but as a customer you walk away with smile and strong intentions to come back time and time again even the people that come for a drink are all friendly and chatty the Baston comunity is just astonishing. As for the staff you see a fault your in the wrong white horse feel welcomed feel as I’m at home always get the interaction with the staff always with a smile and always there to help in anyway you need. as I used to work for pubs and clubs this is worth the review i don’t normally leave reviews but this pub has something that makes it that makes me want to let the world know. don’t believe me we’ll then try it out yourself. 10000000/10

Great Sunday lunch - disappointed we couldn't finish it due to amount served and all cooked/served as ordered. Great friendly service from the team. Will definitely be back again soon.

A busy busy pub in Baston. Hadnt been for years. When we arrived having booked prior we were met by the landlord. No welcome, no smile a very surly 'yes'. I explained we had a booking he went behind the counter sent a waitress who smiled (hurray) and asked how she could help. So a repeat! The landlord then showed us to a benched table a bit crowded sadly next to another. Our drinks arrived perfect! Food ordered but a limited Sun lunch set of mains. Roast beef, a salad and Pollock. Main beef included greens, roast pots, carrots, parsnip, Yorkshire. Other veg were payable extra. Pollock had greens and crushed new pots. I asked if I could have xtra veg instead of new pots and the landlord hesitated saying ' well extra greens then. ' I said some carrots maybe. His reply frankly astounded me. 'The carrots are counted to go with the beef. I will ask chef.' Later he returned to say 'Ive managed to get you carrots but they are roasted'. No problem for me. We had a starter very very tasty food but small portions at £7 to £9. Main beef at £17 my husband said the beef was tender pink and delicious. But Yorks and pots quite dry as had been kept warm. Understandably to a degree. My pollocck was cooked perfectly, flaky and soft, carrots some burning, greens in a bowl not nearly hot enough. We didnt have dessert as we noticed how tiny the portions were. The pub was heaving a tenth anniversary, disco outside etc. Every table bar one taken. The only time the landlord smiled was when we paid our bill. The service from the staff was perfect, attentive and caring. Will we go again? Sadly no. The front of house needs much attention to being welcoming, flexible and showing customer care. We understand costs are raging, attention must be given to costings but not at the expense of a welcome and some flexibility.

The staff are incredibly friendly and polite, the service was quick and professional, and the food was absolutely amazing.I was incredibly hungry, so ordered two starters (cured mackerel and their own corned beef) , and couldn't fault either. The scotch egg my gf had was the best we've ever tasted! We both said, repeatedly, that we'd have to come back again.

I really liked it there. Everything was very good. LG

Great food at very reasonable prices considering the quality and presentation. Good selection of wines and spirits and well kept beer. Basically everything you would hope to find in a village gastro pub. It's the kind of place that would encourage you to live in Baston!

The menu was more imaginative than you usually get from a gastro pub and well prepare . Good value for money.

We were six friends for lunch. The ambience is good in this lovely, old pub, but it would have been nice to have a cushion or seat pad on the hard, wooden dining chairs. Our starters were very good, particularly the ham hock Scotch egg with a runny yolk. I could not fault the quality or the cooking of my steak. We all commented on the generous portion size of the protein element of the main courses but felt that the potato element was small. For me, that was fine but the men felt a little deprived!! But dessert portions were disappointing, especially for the price, and our poached rhubarb was hardly poached……..we couldn’t break it with a spoon and fork! But the homemade ice creams and sorbets were a delight. All these things are really quite minor but our biggest criticism has to be the Manager, or we assume he is the manager? He has no hospitality or social skills whatsoever and was bordering on rude. The few words he uttered were blunt and to the point, and there was no hint of a smile. When we left he was sitting on a chair by the Bar and did not even acknowledge us. That is a real shame because the two young waitresses were lovely…….friendly, smiley and efficient, which also served to accentuate his morose attitude. To sum it up, a big well done to the chef and waitresses, a needs to do better for the manager.
