Wanted somewhere close to town, with parking and a good reputation for my Mums wake and Merriman's completely ticked the box. Natalie was flexible with our buffet choices and allowed us to set up the room as we wished to personalise the occasion. Food was drinks were plentiful and service efficient. We couldn't have asked for more and wouldn't hesitate to return but under better circumstances.

I contacted Merrimans through their website to book a table for 4 on Saturday evening… I received a prompt reply that the table was booked for us at 7.15… brilliant! We arrived on time to a warm and friendly atmosphere… shown to our table and we’re informed that the large party booked in earlier arrived late.. so we would have a delay on our service. No problem at all. We ordered from a very substantial menu and all our meals came at the same time… Beautifully presented and piping hot. My meal of thick salmon fillet with new potatoes, spinach, long green beans and tomatoes was excellent. The other 3 diners with me all had different meals and all said the same. The service was really friendly but not obtrusive! We had desserts and coffee… again first class. Many thanks to the chef… we were led to believe he was alone in the kitchen. WELL DONE ALL OF YOU …WE WILL RETURN!!!! ????

I thought long and hard before leaving a negative review as I know times are hard but myself and my husband had such a dreadful experience for what wasn't particularly cheap meals I felt compelled to review to save others hard earned money being wasted. My husband ordered steak with chips and onion rings. He asked for peas instead of cabbage. Yes cabbage with steak! No peas chips were dry and the onion rings were a bit of onion skin in batter which had been deep fried more than once. When cutting them the batter exploded to leave just a pile of hard batter. Steak was "ok not juicy. Mediocre". I ordered salmon. I was given the choice of chips or new potatoes and veg or salad. I chose chips and veg without the cabbage. What I received was a bowl of sliced new potatoes on microwave zapped cabbage carrots green beans and sliced fresh tomatoes. The veg had been microwaved to death had no taste texture was something I have never experienced, all sitting in a large pool of oil. I shared my husbands chips. I was advised the potatoes and veg were all pre prepared so that's what was dished up regardless of my choice. We did not stay for coffee or desserts. My husband complained and was told "I'll tell the "chef"". No chef came out or offered any attempt to make it right. We paid £50 for that and 2 drinks. I would avoid until there is a better chef.

Just got home from merrimans after a terrible meal. Used to often go for meals before the pandemic and really looked forward to going back again tonight especially as it was for my husbands birthday. The menu is not the same as advertised on the website, it was a very reduced menu. Had a starter and main meal and was only there an hour, didn't even stop for coffee. Would not recommend it, very disappointed. Certainly not worth the £56 we spent. In reply to the owner I would like to say that as it was my husbands birthday and he was somewhat disappointed, I certainly didn't want to make his evening out (?) any worse by complaining. I really don't think you were surprised as our plates showed that we hadn't eaten all our meal and left sooner rather than later. We were really looking forward to visiting your restaurant again as we used to really enjoy eating out there. As a result an expected evening out was really spoilt. Perhaps you should amend your menu on your site so that people would be aware of the limited menu and wouldn't be disappointed. With regard to the food served, I have never had garlic mushrooms served on what looked like thick sliced white bread (toasted) and thin sliced mushrooms, I couldn't taste any garlic, I also couldn't work out what was sprinkled over them. The prawn starter was described as mediocre by my husband. The sea bream was nicely cooked but the gnocchi was swimming in what tasted like a bottled chilli sauce with chilli sprinkled over it, there was some spinach. My husband's comments were that gammon was burnt at the edges, the egg was overcooked but the onion rings although very big were quite nice but couldn't eat them all, the chips were good. I hope this answers your questions about the food. We also noticed that other diners there did not eat all of their meals. I am not dissing your restaurant as you suggested but reviews are there for a reason.
