Beer was good. Whole place smelled like fried fish. Atmosphere ok, however a couple were playing a very loud rattling dice game across from us so we left after one drink.

Food was excellent but nobody responded to my reservation request before I arrived. Fortunately there was plenty of space on the day.

Went for a pre Christmas meal with family back in Lincoln. Had booked a table on lower floor due to family member having mobility issues which came as a surprise to the staff on the day. They had to move another table to make way. Food was OK, but nowhere near as good as their normal menu which is great. Shame really. I like the place but would be hard pressed to go back foe the Christmas set menu. For the price, it just was lacking.

Walked in just after a very busy period today, despite being clearly put under pressure whilst busy the chap behind the bar was really pleasant and chatty, ordering was easy, food and drinks great. You can’t ask for much more!

We came here on the 23rd of Dec and it was surprisingly quiet in the upstairs restaurant, the staff are always warm and friendly and really go out of their way to help with dietary requirements. The food was all great especially the burgers, and very reasonably priced.Dietary restrictions: There are gluten free options like fish and chips and bread buns

The food was good but rather a long wait. The bucks fizz was disappointing as made with prosecco rather than champagne even though champagne was requested. One of the waitresses would have made the visit better if she could manage a smile.

I found the Wig & Mitre to have gone down in quality, I believe it's part of a chain now and it's clear the cuts and restrictions on place to reduce the portions and limit the quality of meals. Sadly this was made worse by inflated Christmas prices for what was a mediocre meal. The staff are still friendly and helpful and the building hasn't lost its charm.Except I must complain about the doors, none of the self-close dampeners seem to work and the doors continually slam shut ringing in your ears and spoiling an otherwise lovely atmosphere.Less shortcuts and more focus on what gives the place its value please.

I'm very picky on food, hence only the 4 stars, but would eat there again so that's neccessarily a negative. But really like this place. An old school feel pub, loads of characterful little rooms and nooks, with small stairs you bang your head on. Being in a busy area of town you get a good varied crowd, but no riff raff. A good selection of drinks, and the kids menu was good.

Had Sunday lunch with my wife and two friends. Not many folk in so kitchen probably wasnt that busy. However, the food wasn't particularly hot. Veg was undercooked and for reasons unknown we only had 4 small roasties on our plates. Why so mean with the cheapest part of the meal. Also £6.95 for a side portion of cauliflower cheese and £3.50 for a bit of mash is very expensive so didn't order any. A very disappointing dinner. At £18.95 for a beef sunday lunch it didn't represent good value. On a plus note our server was very nice.

Been coming here for over 40 years, but less frequently in the last couple of years as the drinks and food have both declined in quality. Choice of 4 real ales, some local, but the wine quality is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The menu is pretty limited, and the food is OK, but really nothing special. The big USP of this place is its unparalleled position at the top of iconic Steep Hill.

We called in on Saturday night, it was quiet but the staff were nice and friendly.A nice place for a drink in an old quaint pub.

Used to love this place as the food was always cooked fresh with an ever changing menu and an awesome specials board . Unfortunately it's been spoilt by being taken over by a chain pub brand , food is the usual reheated rubbish. It's such a shame as the place used to be really special.

What a find !!! Fabulous Sunday lunch. Good choice of dishes. Friendly and very welcoming prompt service even though it was a fairly busy day. Landlord Martin really nice guy. All the staff very accomodating even made us some liqueur coffees. Good range of beers to boot. 5 stars all the way.

Stopped for a Sunday lunch and the wig and mitre did not disappoint. Great atmosphere and decor. Food was cooked perfectly, and the drinks were great. We were served by Martin who was very welcoming and a great server. Would definitely reccomend!

Enjoyable meal. Plenty of seating space upstairs. Experience spoilt by realisation that when we got home that we believe that we had been overcharged (we did not receive a bill), we queried this by e-mail later the same day and a week later we have not received a reply to our query.
