Have eaten here three times in the last couple of years and have been very satisfied each time. The most recent occasion was January 2024 when my wife and I took an elderly friend for a birthday meal. A warm welcome, cosy atmosphere, plenty of food choice and all at pretty reasonable prices. Can strongly recommend the steak and kidney puddings when they're on the specials board!

I have recently moved to Northgate, which makes The Ship my local. I class myself as being very lucky as The Ship is a true gem, a one in a million establishment. The staff are very friendly, they welcomed me and my family with open arms. The food is absolutely amazing, I am vegan and Gluten free which usually means I can only eat salad, but not at The Ship, they cater for everyone, from vegans to vegetarians to Coeliac to fully fledged meat eaters and of course, children are also catered for, they even make small changes to a dish if they can, making their food enjoyable for everyone that visits. In the summer they hold BBQs with music and in winter months wreath classes etc.The decor is eye-catching, cozy and well thought out, with the seasons being the main focus. The Ship runs alongside the river Glenn making it a fabulous place to sit and chill in the summer months. The Ship is very popular not only for the local villagers but also for people visiting or simply passing through. Their pricing is very reasonable making their food great value for money. :)

Dreadful Sunday Roast beef was tough as leather vegetables raw. I told staff what I thought and was told to tell them next time I’m in to tell them and they would cook them for longer my reply was there will definitely not be a next time.

Called in here for a cozy drink. Directed to an area away from the cozy fire. Family playing cushion fights with each other. We did ask if a table near the fire was free to be told it was for dining. Nobody dined whilst we were there. Not very inviting at all.

Warm welcome from the fire and the staff. Cosy place we waited for friends by the bar and the fire. Then sat round the corner in the dining room to eat. Lovely meals enjoyed by all. Didn’t have room for pudding which doesn’t happen often!! ?

Turned up without a booking (recommended) however wasn't in a rush and within 30 mins we were sat down. Good atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and food. Food was better than expected, we had some nibble starters belly pork bites with apple sauce, mac n cheese bites with spicy jam and duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce. It was delicious ? Mains we had Vension with red cabbage, baby veg with dauphinoise potatoes and fish and chips. The helpings were generous, delicious and good quality. If you haven't been then put this on your list!
