Old school hospitality is absolutely perfect. Drinks coffee and cakes all homemade top notch. Clean tidy lovely. Friendly done properly. In a lovely location. We're coming back soon. Authentic and real. Old school English just sublime.

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at The George Hotel. A most interesting visit as where so many establishments are having difficulties in maintaining standards The George seems to be going from strength to strength. Amazingly enthusiastic and helpful Staff ensure that the ‘customer satisfaction’ is achieved. Special mention to Housekeeping who look after the rooms and general areas so well. Highly recommended.

Hotel location is excellent, staff are excellent, food at both breakfast and evening in the Oak Room were excellent, Public rooms and outside area were very good. Our room, (29) was good, BUT no kettle or beverages in room, no refrigerator, no biscuits, 2 small bottles of still water was the only addition. Warner holidays manage to present an excellent package of in room beverages/snacks and a 'fridge even in their most basic room. This was booked as a superior room at over £400 with breakfast. Not good value for money. The drinks at the bar and at table were very overpriced, again not representing good value. A pity as with a little more thought to the needs of the customer, in the way of in room facilities, would have rated this hotel as very good as opposed to disappointing

Called in for a sandwich and they were just closing up, said no problem and they allowed Millie our little Westie in too. Brought her some water and chicken which was very kind and served us our baguettes and drinks, which were delicious. No rush to close up, really good service, thank you.

Phoned the George about a month ago to book a table for Sunday lunch, was told can’t book , it’s walk in. Arrived today with family for a special occasion and was told the restaurant for Sunday lunch was fully booked. Staff seemed to be stuck and looking down their noses at us so quickly left and took our custom elsewhere. Fair to say we won’t be returning.

The last jazz evening was fantastic. The ambiance and the foods are excellent. I had prawns to start and a delicious fish and Chips. I strongly recommend the trifle for desert. Thanks to Andrea and the team for à wonderful venue.

We called in for morning coffee and a toasted tea cake, sitting in the outside courtyard. Everything was excellent. Staff were helpful and attentive, the coffee and cake were tasty and all complemented by being in a lovely setting in this famous old hotel.

After a 10 year gap since last visit it was good to see that the place had been well looked after albeit still quite 'pricey' for Sunday night accommodation although we acknowledge it was the end of the Burley Horse Trial weekend. The Sunday evening 'roast' was excellent as were the staff who served us.

For many years of coming to the George for Sunday roasts, we decided that this time we would try the seafood. We were really looking forward to trying some. Service was steady, but for a summers day and a Pimms in hand we where happy. Starters we tried scallops, which I’d definitely recommend! Followed by there seafood platter, which looked delightful! After eating through a fare amount of it, we tried the sea snails. Which unfortunately they smelt and tasted gone of! After this it put us of eating the rest. Which now we have both got food poisoning from this. With both of us finding it hard to leave the bathroom. After us dinning at a range of high end restaurants, I was surprised and shocked. That not only was some of the food bad, most of our utensils where grubby and dirty. This is usually a great place with great atmosphere and service. But this time it’s certainly put us of coming here :(

Our waiter was attentive and pleasant and the surroundings are lovely, especially when you can sit outside in the pretty courtyard. However, the food is so overpriced. If a restaurant is charging these prices the quality of the food and the cooking of it needs to be spot on. Ours wasn’t. The queen scallops were overcooked and cold, the lamb cutlets were also overcooked and the accompanying potatoes had a grey tinge to them with yellowish broccoli. The jus that comes separately in a jug was completely lacking in flavour and very greasy. The last 3 times I have been to the George we have been very disappointed. Including a special birthday. I keep hoping it will go back to the standards it used to have but the only thing changing is the upwards prices. Such a pity.

We went for afternoon tea and my friend was treating me for my birthday. Some parts were lovely, others could have easily been much better. We choose our seat in the lounge area and that was pleasant and selected our tea/coffee. The waitress who seemed to be in charge was friendly and welcoming. But what could be better: 1. The afternoon tea stand was plonked down with a 'here you are ' from another waitress - I had to ask them to tell us what was on the sandwiches and what the cakes were. She didn't know some of the cakes and did not find out. It should be standard to 'talk through' what is on the stand. 2. My tea was already really stewed. It was too strong. I think it had been left a while. 3. My friend asked for a latte and was disappointed just to get it in a small cup - when large latte glass cups were being delievered elsewhere. 4. Some waitressing seemed a bit slapdash - things delievered to the wrong table. one waitress had really long hair flying eveywhere - not the best for food delievery. The cakes were lovely, but overall service was below par and the tea undrinkable.

My partner got me a cheese salad roll takeaway and omg they never buttered the roll and the amount of filling is disgraceful.. I've took pics and will upload. Never ever again going there.. what a rip off

The BEST Wrap I've ever had. ∞/10. The meat and cheese were heated to perfection. The taste was mesmerising. Absolutely brilliant would recommend.
