Booked in at the Premier inn ( polite and friendly staff) therefore had breakfast the next morning at what I expected to be part of the Whitbread chain. It isn’t ….. it’s a Greene King. Breakfast was a half hearted affair with some sullen staff who could barely utter a good morning let alone crack a smile. The choice was dire with the cooked food being delivered and presented as if the staff had a hangover and couldn’t face the thought of cooking food properly. Coffee was an urn of brown water which obviously was supposed to suppress anyone with a desire for a decent cuppa. It worked….. shocking! When I asked if I could have a fresh cup of coffee I was told that I would have to pay. Bowls for cereal were non existent unless the thimbles they gave you were a New Years ploy to help customers lose weight…. You could get one Weetabix in it. Obviously folk in the Wirral put up with this. The rest of the UK however appear to have moved on from a 1970s “take it or leave it” attitude.

I've eaten here on 4 occasions now as staying in the Premier Inn next door due to mobilisation of new site for food services. Been charged 4 different prices for the same drink £4. 59, £3.29, £3.60 and £3.05. Ridiculous that all staff charge different prices due to what they think it should be. Staff training required. 1st meal of a burger was very dry and bland, not asked if meal was okay by staff. 2nd meal my steak came out rare instead of medium well. Not asked if meal was okay by Staff. Had a great 3rd meal and was served by Harry who was ever so polite and friendly. 4th meal of a mixed grill came out luke warm, black pudding was cremated. Meal was re done and fine. Sarah asked if my 2nd meal was better so thank you Sarah for that. Very disappointed with the inconsistenciesog food and drinks. Been in the catering industry for 27yrs and the poor quality of food in pubs is shocking

The food was delicious, my wife had the ribeye steak and I had the smoking jack burger. Service was quick and efficient and we had plenty of time to decide on what to order. Highly recommended

Visited the pub today staff were fabulous especially the lady who gave us table service very friendly chatty and helpful but the food was a let down poor quality and below average meals would not return such a shame as I visited here few years ago and food was lovely

Visit here quite often as its local and even though there are lots of Greene King eateries in the area, here has always been of the better ones. Starters of calamari arrived luke warm at best, my guess is they'd been cooked beforehand and kept warm and a limp bit of salad? We ate them as we were hungry but disappointing as calamari is my fave starter. Partner had the mushrooms which were fine and at least hot! After a disappointing start I was doubting my main of sirloin steak but I couldn't fault this, it was cooked to my liking, nice hot sweet potato fries and peppercorn sauce, a few mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. Partner had a steak sandwich which he said was nice but he's not a foodie and would literally eat anything. Cappuccino and mini slice of cheesecake for him but no other desserts as decided to have an extra drink instead. Restaurant was busy earlier on then quietened down about 8pm. Staff were pleasant enough, nobody asked if meals were ok which was a bit strange but not the end of the world. It's a nice pub, and seems popular and would happily return again.

Friendly place, with a good customer service. Good food for the price you pay. They do great deals during the week. A car park with lots of space. Could do with a internal decoration uplifted.

We booked for 7 people but because of the snow 3 of the family had to return home. The Hotel and Staff were very understanding. The Meals were extremely good, lovely fresh vegetables, piping hot. Staff so friendly, nothing was too much trouble.

My lovely dad sadly died earlier this month and we decided to hold his wake in our local pub The Zach Willsher, as this is where my dad used to visit; in Benfleet, Essex. We chose the buffet in advance and opened a bar tab for our guests on the day. Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff. The surroundings were perfect both comfortable and private. A great way to celebrate my dads life and for all to share our stories and pay tribute to a wonderful man. Thank you Zach

Nice place for a drink, didn't eat but the food looked good. A little pricey for drinks, no idea why, thus far north, but nice.

I have had "hit and miss" meals and service here. My last meal was a hit day. I enjoyed the vegetarian burger I had but the vegetarian meals were predictable.
