Nice place just a bit outdated. Owners very nice. Free parking. Very central to the quiet town. Single room very cosy but also get a single bed so not for me when I'm working

A lovely English Inn. It's an old building looking out on the town and church. The bed was comfortable and room was warm. The staff very friendly. Breakfast was great.Richard is a character. Will come again when visiting family.A proper old fashioned Inn

Always a good welcome, new carpet looks nice, fantastic pint of abbot

Dated but its bound to be as a listed building. Not great bar opening hours either. But not a bad place to stay for a night or 2. Staff friendly and great breakfast.

I do think that charging an extra £1 for making a payment for a pint via card is rather extreme and frankly greedy. The price of a pint is the price of a pint in my eyes and strange ( what next…an extra 50 pence if you are wearing brown shoes ? ).

This is an centuries old inn on the main road through town, so plenty of exposed timbers. But the building really could do with a make-over. It not quite shabby, but it's bordering on it. However, on the plus side, the food is first-class. We stopped by for a 'quick' lunch and ended up with full plates of hot, fresh, well-prepared food. My wife had a BLT and I had bacon and brie, both in a fresh, crusty baguette. Tasted wonderful with thick rashers of bacon from the butcher's shop across the road. Can't fault the food (or the beer) and the owner was a charming lady.

Had a quick drink, was ok

Handy location for what I needed, good food and service. Room was okay but it's an old building so has a lot of character. Would stay again.

Visited here for lunch one Friday, late autumn. Was a warm day so we asked if we could be placed away from radiators but apparently this was not possible, so were placed in a very over heated side room where we could luckily open a window. Took almost an hour for an un unwelcoming older waitress to take the order . I ordered a water and ice, which never arrived. The staff didn't seem to want to be there so I find myself perplexed as to why they continue to operate, when It good be a fantastic business opportunity for someone that could take pride in this establishment. The food that arrived was to a very good standard however even thought the choices available were rather outdated and limited for non meat eaters. Needs to get with the times to keep up with the industry and get return customers.

Richard is a fantastic host, the breakfasts are home cooked quality, set you up just right for the day, perfect. The hotel bar is staffed by a helpful Bar Tender happy to heat microwave meals if food not in service (many local shops right on the door step) . A nice pint of Abbots served here with outside tables and seating. Parking at the rear. Hotel bar in olde English house, TV and settles, bang on. Double rooms spacious, high quality bathrooms; singles as you'd expect, also nicely done. A warm welcome and fantastic service in a lovely setting...exemplary. One on my radar. Experienced traveller.

This place is a rare gem. Not only is Richard a knowledgeable and affable host the place a working museum filled rich history. The well-priced rooms were perfect size with a wonderful view of the 1000 AD churchyard. Highly recommended.
