Did a large order for our team of volunteers and staff (30 people) as a thank you lunch - phoned the order through and collected on time. All correct with, helpful added items of sauces, forks and serviettes etc. All food was well cooked, delicious and everyone enjoyed the lunchtime treat thank you.

I had gluten free Cod & Chips, which was absolutely fantastic, it is really difficuilt to get true gluten free fish & chips but the Holt Fish Bar totally delivers. We live in Colchester and this was our first visit. We will definitely be going back again. This is the first time I have ever given 10/10 for the owner truly understanding the meaning of gluten free. Thank you so much for a fabulous lunch.

We visited on the night of the Holt ‘Lights on event’. It was really busy with a 20 minute wait but coming from London and Essex I could sense a different and friendly atmosphere. We’re not big eaters and had the old folks deal of half cod and chips , peas and a tea for 2 for £15. Reasonable and good fish but superb crispy and tasty chips. All the family will be back when we visit. We once tried Erics Fish bar and received the rudest of ‘unwelcomes’ from the woman server do their loss we’re a big family.

We have never used this chip shop before and had gone on a recommendation. Wish we hadn’t bothered and just gone with our usual.The chips were nothing special, the curry sauce was too sweet and the mushy peas tasted out of a tin. However the worst part was the battered fish which were absolutely awful, the batter was so undercooked, it was pale in colour, mushy and soggy with a very weird texture and taste. Fortunately the fish was just cooked inside, so we scraped off all the batter , which laid in a pale mound of sogginess on our plates. Very off putting. We will definitely not go back and stick with our usualDietary restrictions: Does gluten free

Staying in Holt for 5 nights, had fish and chips on the first night and we went back again on the last night. Great fish and chips and the best curry sauce we've had. Very good service too. Would definitely recommend to family and friends who are holidaying this way.

Friendly service, unfortunately they were out of Haddock so opted for Cod. Fish was tasty, nice crispy batter, chips nice colour and tasty. Had to ask for salt on my chips (caught them just before wrapped) rather than Salt or Vinegar being offered. Battered sausage wasn't great - they'd used a herb'd sausage which didn't go with the batter, a good plain traditional pork sausage would be preferred.Overall good cod & chips takeaway, would return.

THE BEST fish and chips we have EVER had and at 57 and 64, we have had a lot!! Crispy light batter, thick and flaky creamy cod. Delicious chips and the best curry sauce we have tried!! Thank you:)
