My husband and I (and two friends visiting from Scotland) ate here last night as part of Norfolk's Restaurant Week. We were caught up in a traffic grid lock in Norwich and arrived an hour after our table booking time. It proved to be no problem for the staff, who were very attentive, and we had a delicious meal, beautifully presented and we were under no pressure to vacate our table. Altogether a pleasurable experience. Thank you to all at The Dales.Food & drinks: Already stated above.

This is a review of the restaurant only, and only for lunch. The inn's setting is absolutely lovely. On a warm sunny day the tables on the expansive lawn are really inviting. The food at lunch on the day we visited, however, was ordinary. Smoked salmon sandwich came on a thick, dry bun with a tiny bit of salmon. Chips were nice. Caesar salad with chicken featured only 3 or 4 very thinly sliced strips of chicken and a bit of mayo for the dressing. Bacon was nice, however. Best thing about lunch was the wine list. Surprising variety by the glass and a generous pour. Service was really outstanding and probably saved the day. Very dog friendly both inside and outside. We'll return for the wine, the sun and the lawn but would be hard pressed to dine again.

The Dales Hotel was, apart from the size of the room, very good. The hotel was very clean, with attentive and friendly staff. The food, both breakfast and dinner, were well cooked and plentiful with a different menu for each of the days we were there. The hotel is positioned a walk away from Sheringham and the beach and, if you cut through Sheringham Park via the hotel, a very pleasant walk. The room size was, for the price, a tad disappointing and the fabric of the room, in need of a bit of TLC. Over all a nice country house hotel worth a visit.

Stopped off for lunch after a walk in Sheringham Park. The staff are incredible and the food is absolutely amazing - even the butter tasted like it was home-made. Superb value for money. It's a little bit off the beaten track, but definitely worth the effort.

We have just returned from having dinner here tonight. Where to beginning. The dinning room is a very pleasant and attractive room. when ordering we were told that the crab and lobster were not on the menu. This was disappointing as we were hoping to have some crab however this might have been fortune. We order 2 portions of the plaice gojouns , one was fine the other had no fish in it!we also had the ham hock which was satisfactory and the chicken mousse was good. We then waited for our main courses. Two of which arrived 5 minutes before the other two. The beef was ok but where were the vegetables? The lamb was tough and came with one small piece of tender stem broccoli hidden under the potatoes. The sea bass was ok. Now to the finale!we ordered 2 portions of the toffee cheesecake and toffee ice cream and 2 portions of cheese and biscuits. The waitress was embarrassed when she delivered it and said this is supposed to be a cheesecake but if you don’t want it I will take it away…… I have to say that in all my years of critiquing food I have never seen anything thing like this! Possibly if it was served as a deconstructed pudding they might have got away with it.However when a small number of biscuits crumbs was topped with a a runny creamy mess with a dollop of toffee sauce on it.It tasted very gloopy and really unpleasant. It was inedible and sent back to the kitchen, We decided not to risk anything else.We did hear the waitress say to the next table that it was no longer available and a sticky toffee pudding was offered instead. The cheese and biscuits were ok.. They didn’t charge for the desserts or one of the goujons. However we still thought that it was a very expensive meal for what we had.We shall not be returning.

My room was lovely but the bathroom needs some TLC regarding maintenance. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings the only downside for me was my room was above the kitchen and unfortunately the staff were not mindful of the noise they were making outside taking and messing around. So between 10pm and 11pm at night it wasn’t very peaceful. I was very disappointed with the food and not sure if food hygiene is being followed properly in the kitchen. Two mornings on the trot the melon and pineapple in the fruit salad had some mould on it, and the prunes had a very acid taste to them so past their best. The cooked breakfast was greasy and the toast wasn’t particularly nice either. For the money you are paying I would have expected a lot better standard of food overall.

Firstly what a lovely welcome beautiful entrance and we were early but no problem at all , the table was being finished by a very professional friendly Josh who truly made our visit, he was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble , the cakes were lovely and so fresh and lovely scones and sandwiches at such a good price, and the lovely special touch and surprise really amazed us thank you. We shall definitely return it was the best we have had for a very long time... Please thank Josh and all the staff for making our afternoon.

We didn’t stay over night so I can’t rate the rooms, however this was one of the very best places I have eaten. The service was superb and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome.

I went for dinner with family members, at the Dales. I chose tomato & basil soup with tuile, roasted breast of chicken with vegetables and homemade apple pie. The soup was served with half a dozen small croutons in it, no sign of the tuile. Tasty enough, but not as per menu. The roast chicken dish had been covered in ground black pepper. I didn't discover this until after the first mouthful. I never eat pepper. Had the menu said 'roasted and peppered' chicken breast, I would not have selected it. I scraped what pepper I could off the chicken, but couldn't get the taste of the pepper out of my mouth. The homemade apple pie turned out to be a commercially-made tart base, filled with tinned apple, not a pie at all. I expressed my dissatisfaction to our waitress and she said she would pass it on to the chef. Neither the chef nor the manager bothered to speak to me. As we left, I asked the waitress if she had passed my comments on and she said she had told the manager. He was obviously too busy (there were only 4 other diners in the dining room) or couldn't be bothered to take the time to deal with a dissatisfied customer. Their loss, as I will not recommend the establishment to friends and will not give them any future custom (I live locally).

We enjoyed our weekend at the Dales. It was the first time we stayed somewhere with our dog and it was a good experience thanks to the hotel and staff, who were very attentive and helpful. Our room was nice and comfortable and the grounds are great if you have a dog. The food was really good on the first night but could have been better on the second one. The cocktails weren’t that great. Overall we had a really good time and can’t wait to go again!

Myself, my partner and in-laws stayed at the hotel last weekend. Though it’s a beautiful building, I feel it’s very overpriced considering the following. My In-laws required a ground floor room, wheelchair accessible. Though the room was a good size, the shower had a sizeable step up to it, no grab rails or shower chair, though one was offered, but it was explained it was in the basement and needed a good clean. No sockets were accessible for my Mother in-Law to charge her phone. She had to physically move furniture in order to get to a socket. The lighting in the bathroom was very poor. My Father in -Law is partially sighted, so bad lighting meant he couldn’t see his way around the bathroom properly. The decor was tired and dated, and the skirting boards needed repairing. My Father -in Law uses a walker, outside their room was the exit. A badly laid carpet caused a trip hazard as it had crumpled up meaning his walker got stuck. This had to be pointed out to a member of staff to rectify.Mine and my partners room wasn’t any better. Very dated, wallpaper was scuffed, headboard not even attached to the bed, poorly ventilated as only half the small window opened. It was so hot, we had to have the fan on all day and night, plus the milk provided for tea/coffee was off, so not even able to have a drink. The towel rail on the bathroom was so hot my partner scalded himself. I’m bemused as to why in summer it was even on.Considering the price paid, the rooms are very dated and not worthy of the 4 star status especially as breakfast was an extra charge of £14:99!!!!Needless to say, though I’m sure the Dales is a popular venue for special occasions, it lets itself down on the rooms. We will not be returning for reasons stated above. Far too expensive for what it is.

Travelled with my wife and stayed for four nights. The staff were , without exception , polite, smart and friendly and a credit to the hotel. Our room was spacious with a king sized bed and the best bathroom we have experienced and we have travelled a lot! The restaurant was clean and our food was very good with a wide choice on the menu. To cap it all tables came with a tablecloth which is not always the case. The only criticism I have is that some male guests came to dinner in shorts which I think is disrespectful to their partners who invariably dress for the occasion. Perhaps a change in policy ? We were fortunate with the weather so could enjoy refreshments sitting in the lovely gardens. All in all a brilliant stay in a wonderful hotel. We will be returning for sure

We had originally booked at the sister hotel, The Links, in West Runton. Due to a boiler issue we were offered a free upgrade to the Dales. We had a wonderful stay. Room with en-suite of good size and exceptionally clean. Lovely cooked breakfast and great service in the morning. We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar, prices very reasonable. All staff were so friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay so would consider staying again however, prefer the location of the Links hotel and access to the train.
