Amazing gluten free fish and chips. I always look for gluten free eateries wherever we go on holiday so my coeliac daughter can have foods we enjoy too. You need to check the days and times they offer gluten free options as these may vary.

Went in and was served straight away for a take away. Tables were full with people Dining inside. Was nice to be able to order a small piece of fish and a small portion of chips. Food was lovely and piping hot and very tasty. Will definitely be returning!

Called in for fish and chips. Portion of chips was very small compared to the size of portion we get at our local chip shop. Although the fish as nice the chips were very bitty and crispy.

Excellent. Cooked to order fresh as expected and friendly staff. Fish with skin on really makes it seem fresh.

Seems to have ‘dumbed down’ a bit here. Chips were mediocre and the gravy (at £1.75) was just Bisto. What happened to proper onion gravy? I can only assume they think delivering an inferior product is ok because they know next door’s offering is even worse.

A very concerning visit that could've made us very sick! Myself and husband went to Wells Next The Sea yesterday and decided to treat ourselves to some battered fish for lunch. We ordered 2 haddock fillets and were informed there'd be approximately 5-6mins wait which was fine by us, especially being cooked fresh to order. We sat down to eat, and on the 2nd mouthful, I had a very overpowering, foul taste. I wasn't sure what the strange taste was, and mentioned it to my husband that also looked concerned as he was screwing up his face from his fish also seemingly odd tasting. I took my fish to the counter and explained what I'd experienced, and my husband described the taste as an ammonia like odour and bitter taste which then really freaked me out ? the servers behind the counter equally looked a little concerned, but assured us they pride theirselves in fresh, regularly inspected and date rotated fish. We were given our money back without hesitation, and left bewildered and quite honestly in anxiety at the prospect of consuming fish that had been cooked past its best. Thankfully, as I'm a herbal practitioner and nutritionist, I stock activated charcoal at home, and ensured we both took a couple of teaspoons with coconut water as soon as we arrived home in the event we may become ill. We both had an unsettled night, slight stomach upset, but no vomiting thank God! My husband did have a bout of diarrhoea 1st thing this morning, but I truly believe that if I didn't act quick with the charcoal cleanse and utilising my knowledge and medicine supplements to detox, we would have experienced worse effects. Under no circumstances should fish be cooked with any unusual, strong odour. I can only presume this was not noticed, or perhaps we were just very unlucky to have had 'off' fish. Either way, this has put us off ever eating at any fish and chip shop ever again ? over £16 for 2 pieces of battered haddock, you expect SAFE, GOOD QUALITY!

The food & service was fantastic so very clean and will be back! So a great big WELL DONE from Old Mill restaurant and café bar, Norfolk Broads.

Came tonight for take away, it was 6:30pm 9th November, cold and wet and the place was packed, the reason why? Amazing fish and chips, cooked fresh, with decent portion size and all done in a sutainable and eco friendly way.! Whats not to love ❤️

Unfortunately, in my experience, fish & chips often promise more than they deliver and sadly I cannot recommend French’s very highly as I was disappointed with my meal. Good points were the friendly staff, cleanliness and the availability of cutlery, condiments etc but my cod was batter heavy with very little meat and the chips were scraggy. However, my wife did fare better with her haddock and other diners all seemed happy with their meals so perhaps I was just unlucky. We walked by the place many times on our week in Wells and it was always busy so it is obviously popular but not for the first time I felt let down by a fish and chip meal. Sorry, French’s.

Stopped here because it appeared to be the only fish and chip shop in wells. Glad we did. Initially there was a bit of a queue and we were just about to leave when another member of staff appeared and took orders. To our delight we were served our food, we didn’t have to wait to be called like other larger groups of people were doing. We just had 3 small portions of fish and chips, there was plenty and both the fish and chips were tasty. Free forks, salt and vinegar to help yourself to for take aways.

The best fish and chips in Wells. Jack was an excellent server and reassured about gluten free and vegan options. Made sure to let us know all available options and give us the choice of separate containers/gluten free vinegar. Service was quick and efficient, food was delicious. Would recommend to everyone.

Tasty and fresh fish and chips in a good location. We got food and ate it outside by the sea but you can eat indoors.Good value and portions, the fish was not overcooked or dried out and the chips were very crispy.I had a small cod and chips which was a very big portion.

Having heard so much about French's gluten-free fish and chips, I finally got to sample them yesterday. What a letdown! My wife and I both have to follow gluten-free diets, and we both agree that they were the worst fish and chips that we have ever had!The gluten-free batter was stodgy and, in some places, uncooked inside. Some parts of the fish also appeared uncooked. Some of the chips were hard and inedible. We both threw away over half of our order, which having spent £24 was quite annoying. So disappointing considering that we had waited so long to try them.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free is not an option unless you like your fish and batter undercooked!

AMAZING gluten free chips, cooked in a separate fryer and with gluten free vinegar! Highly recommend! Really great value for money too!
