Stopped here for lunch today.Had a great table over looking the Quay. We ordered 3 baguettes, two prawn & one cheese & onion, all came with crisps and a side salad. The salad dressing was one of the best we've tasted. The prawns were lovely and fresh. We also ordered a children's fish and chips. My child said this was the best fish & chips he's tasted, and was cooked to perfection. Sands restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas, clean, tidy and had a great atmosphere, with Christmas music playing. Excellent service, friendly owner who couldn't do enough for us! We will be back!

Had the best evening at Sands, food, service and atmosphere amazing, would highly recommend. The attention to detail with the food was so appreciated and the view of the harbour and lovely staff really made the evening special for us. We always chose to visit Sands when on holiday in Wells.

Fantastic evening meal, Sea Trout, Fish Crumble and Gammon all exceptional and effortless done by 2 lovely ladies, one serving and one in the kitchen, bravo for providing great service and great food.

Really not very goodPlace was empty for dinner which speaks volumes when everywhere else is busy.No draught beers which is disappointingMenu was very limitedWe ordered the special fresh king prawns, chorizo and breadThe prawns were clearly frozen, chorizo underwhelming and the bread was from the supermarketAll for £8.50 !The mains were better but I’d had enough by this time, poor service telling me the prawns were fresh, holes and rips in both the carpet and chairsNot our thing

Food is very good and quiet peaceful spot upstairs from Plattens. Service is polite but as only one waiter for the whole restaurant you need to be patient - we did quite well but other tables we could see were irritated with the delay. We did give up on desserts as the dessert menu never came even though we were asked - but have to say the main courses were very good - seafood platter and mussels are good and fresh. Don't recommend the local cider though! We would return - I am sure its a lovely place too to eat lunch at with a daytime window view.

We had an evening meal at Sands. The restaurant was cold, with only 3 other tables occupied on a Saturday evening. We ordered the ‘special’ King prawns with chorizo, garlic butter and crusty bread. The prawns were not fresh prawns, they were the mass frozen prawns you can buy from cash and carries from Thailand. They had no flavour. The chorizo was the tiny diced chorizo that you can often get from supermarkets, again not very good quality. The bread was packet bread, not even fresh bread from a bakers. The portion was very small, for £8.50 I’d expect good quality food or a decent portion, this was neither. The waiter did not deal with the complaint very well, telling us that no one had ever complained about the dish before - he obviously hasn’t looked on here before! We ordered various mains, all were ok. The wine menu was very poor, only about 6-7 choices of red wine, when we ordered a bottle we were told it was not available. Overall we the restaurant lacked atmosphere, the food was below average and the service was not very good. We have visited several pubs in Wells that all served much better quality food, with far better atmosphere and service.

Really delicious meals for four last night and great service. Hake Risotto so tasty as was the Seabass and Thai Kings Prawn curry. Sharing the seas food platter as a starter for 4 was inspired! No room for pud!

I visited Sands for dinner with my wife when staying in the area. The dining area is on the first floor, with views across Wells-next-the-Sea harbour, especially if you are lucky to be seated at a table by a window. The menu is not overly large, but I prefer a restaurant with a smaller number of dishes cooked well. They also offered two starters and four mains as specials. We had an enjoyable evening, the staff were polite and friendly and the food was very nice and good value.

Visited on a Monday in October for a family birthday lunch. Booked as a group of 4 and emailed the restaurant to reserve a table at the front by the window which they kindly confirmed and arrived to see this had been reserved for us. Ordered food, one had the Thai Prawn curry, one the seafood platter, one the cod and one the scampi. All of us finished our food and gave our compliments to the chef - all very tasty! Puddings were a mix of sticky toffee pudding or profiteroles, all very tasty again! Only slight complaint would be only having one waitress to serve everyone - inevitably you struggled to get her attention and so ended up having to walk over to her a couple of times to order anything! Overall, good value, tasty food and a lovely view over the estuary

Excellent location, menus not extensive but to me there good choices. My starter was king prawn with chorizo and was excellent. Main course was the sea food crumble and again very good. The waiter was a one man band and he did a Stirling job. This was my first visit as my wife did not accompany me this trip and she is in a wheelchair which prohibits us using Sands as it is inaccessible with 13 stairs. Other than that this restaurant is first class value for money.

I have visited Sands for the first time as I'm in Wells for the day. It was about 12:30 and very quiet outside probably being a Friday in the last week of September. I was served quickly the waitress was nice and friendly and my Cod and Chips came out quickly. It was tasty but maybe I'm a big eater but would have liked a larger portion of peas other than that it was nice and I would go back again. Thankyou.
