Lovely staff, but awful smashed avocado.Partner ordered the junior breakfast which she enjoyed.I ordered the smashed avocado. Immediately there was an awful aftertaste, bitter, sour. Tasted off.The waitress was extremely apologetic and went to get me another, by which point my stomach had slightly turned.Another arrived, and again, exactly the same and my partner agreed the aftertaste was bitter. I thought I’d try eating the eggs but they were underdone and inedible. By this point I’d lost my hunger.Again the waitress was very apologetic and offered a complimentary drink. Shortly after the chef came out to apologise for the food. I said I often enjoy avocados and I hate complaining but I just can’t eat it. She insists it was made fresh, which I believe, but there’s something bitter about them.I said I’d pay for the meal for the meal regardless which I did. But I’m very disappointed, especially with all the excellent reviews they’ve had. Maybe it’s my tastebuds fault? I’ve only refused a dish in one other place in my whole life. There are places nearby (even the Waitrose cafe) that does avocado without the weird aftertaste so I won’t be going back again.I want to reiterate that the staff are very nice and attentive here.

Had a very tasty feta and caramelised red onion chiabatta. Sat in a lovely reconstructed railway carriage compartment from yesteryear. Lovely ambiance, friendly staff and good prices. The portion sizes are very generous as well.

A great place to bring the kids to watch the trains, or play in the giant wooden Thomas the Tank Engine in the Beer Garden. Food was lovely. Prices reasonable. Service attentive and friendly. The interior is designed like an old station, and some of the tables are set up to look like an old carriage with the old fashioned plush train seats.

Great use of what might otherwise be redundant space on a moderately busy main line station. Friendly staff; reasonable prices & good food. Really love the area we sat in - 1st class carriage seating surrounded by railway memorabilia - but then we enjoy these rather nostalgic surroundings.

An excellent and reasonably priced Café Bistro, with the special attraction of an evening dining experience on Fridays - The staff are welcoming and always eager to assist - The food is impressive for a station restaurant - The location is enhanced by a track-side beer garden featuring a recently refurbished large scale model of "Thomas the Tank Engine" – The railway carriage furnishings, and station waiting room interior, come together to provide an enjoyable experience of the long lost “time of steam“ and “age of the train”, captured in so many British films of the past - A “must try” experience.

Recently discovered station bistro and we have been back a couple of times since for breakfast and lunch - great food and service every time - and love that our dog can join us too!

Good menu with plenty of options, we only had tea, coffee and cakes for 2 which came to just over £10 so good value as well. Interesting place with train memorabilia and a view of the platforms.

A converted train station building on the still functioning platform, the decor pays homage to the station’s history. We were seated on renovated train seats and they were very comfortable! Luggage racks were overhead filled with retro suitcases. The menu was small but I still had trouble choosing from 4 dishes that caught my eye. The food was very delicious and good value for money in a time of fast rising prices. The staff were friendly and efficient. Couldn’t have asked for more really. Might have to go back for breakfast!

Visit here a lot for a Friday coffee and catch up, staff are super welcoming and lovely. Don't always eat here but when I do the food never disappoints. They offer milk alternatives and a great variety and the atmosphere is always great

Although I had visited before, this was the first time I had sampled the Sunday roast at the Station Bistro. The roast pork was really delicious with perfect crackling and Yorkshire pudding. This was followed by an equally gorgeous apple & cinnamon crumble. Both were served at an ideal temperature. One or two of the reviews on this site have questioned the friendliness of the staff in this establishment but I have to say that I have never seen any evidence of this. The staff are really attentive, friendly and polite so I would not hesitate to recommend.

The Sunday lunch was one of the best I have eaten. Everything was home made. I had Pork and husband had Beef. Generous portion and lots of delicious vegetables. The Yorkshire pudding was huge and very tasty.

Took my son here for a breakfast treat. Food was nice and of good quality however, keeping with the British Rail authenticity, the prices were fairly expensive and the service poor. Not once were we asked if everything was ok, and I had to call a passing waitress to get more coffee. On a positive, the decor was nice and from our window, we could watch the trains coming and going.
