This was something of a last-minute booking for two days. Then we received an email to say the bar and restaurant had suddenly closed! but there was a cafe next door. It turned out not to be a problem for us. We're not 'pubby' people anyway, and it meant that the whole ambience was nice and quiet. Hopefully, the bar and restaurant will be up and running in another two or three weeks. Check first, if you think it's important to you. Although the premises are set just off the main road, very little traffic noise was evident. When we arrived and were looking around outside, the landlord, Abby, came out to see if we needed assistance. He gave us a very warm welcome, took us inside and introduced us to the receptionist, Christina, who also welcomed us. We were given the keys to our room, which was on the first floor. Don't forget (and I'm sure Abby and Christina wouldn't let you) to register your car registration number at reception, if you use the free (to residents) car park at the rear of the building. There is also free on-street parking in the lane at the front of the hotel, but that would soon get filled. Be aware, there is no lift, so anyone with mobility issues might find that a bit of a problem. My wife and I are both hovering around 80 and Abby unhestitatingly offered to take our luggage up to our room (and down again when we were leaving). The room was large and airy, very clean and comfortable. As it was not possible for Abby to provided any food, he made sure there was a microwave oven, fridge, crockery and cutlery, plus copious supplies of tea, coffee, milk and sugar available to supplement the tea/coffee making equipment in the room. The adjacent cafe provided breakfast, if required, plus light meals, such as lasagne, cottage pie etc. Perfectly adequate and very tasty. There are a number of eateries and takeaways in Guisborough, just a few minutes away by car. On the down side, a couple of times I thought a Chinook helicopter was circling low over the building. There was the familiar 'wap, wap, wap' sound and the room shook. It didn't bother us, as we live under a helicopter flight path and are used to the sounds, but some might find it unnerving at first. I don't actually think it was a Chinook, but something to do with the water pipes! It only lasted a few minutes, though. Overall, for the price we paid, it was a very good value experience and we weren't disappointed.

Food was nice but was disappointed with where we were seated, we had booked 2 to 3 months ago for a party of 19 people and expected to be sat on one table but unfortunately our party was split to 3 tables, we were told it was done like this because of the space, however last year we went in August for a party and had roughly 20 people all on a table joined together in exactly the same place we were sat today, so to say you could not move the tables is unacceptable as you've done it previously for us without us asking.I payed for 2 hours of parking but had to get another hour as we had to wait for approximately an hour before we could go up for the carvery.

Food was great but the organisation was poor. We were a party of 19 booked months ago expecting to be on 1 long table but we're put on 3 separate tables. Also ending up having to pay twice for parking as it took that long to be served our carvery.asfor your reply there was a lo ng table there today for a 80th birthday and we came last September for our sons 40th and we were a large party sat at one table to me you are just making excuses for your poor organisational skills

Problem with sorting the parking out. And meals very slow need plenty of time to go for a meal. First time I have posted a review

The meals we got were absolutely delicious, the only issue we had was that under the Vegetarian and Vegan menu it listed Fish and chips which we assumed would be faux fish (like quorn) however, it was proper cod. Neither Vegetarian or Vegans eat any sort of meat including fish (pescatarians do) which did taint our experience somewhat. That been said, the rest of the meals were absolutely wonderful, the staff was friendly and helpful and the location was beautifully quaint.

Food was a bit meh, the mash was watery. We only went for Sunday so only carvery option was only available. Historically when been in the past there has been better options for food & carvery was better

I booked this hotel, as it was an ideal B&B to base ourselves, for a golf trip over the weekend. The accommodation was as expected, clean and fit for purpose, although a little dated and the water pressure low, it was ideal for us. The food in the pub was first class and service was great. Top tip read the menu first, as when it says giant it means giant. Folks should be aware that the site consists of the hotel, pub and a restaurant, and unfortunately they do not communicate with each other, and this results in disappointed customers. Point of note for future travellers - THE FOX &HOUNDS IS NOT A B&B!!! If you want a breakfast this can be had at the restaurant next door at an additional cost - be advised, as I was under the impression that it was inclusive - it isn't! There were a number of people staying at the same time who were also surprised at this development. The restaurant does not open until 0900 so don't expect an early start to the day with a good breakfast. We asked for a breakfast at 0800 on the Saturday when we checked in on the Friday, and were informed this would be OK. The restaurant did not open on the Saturday for our 0800 breakfast, and when I enquired about it on the Sunday, they were totally unaware of our request. In the evening the pub is a lively place, but be advised if you have small impressionable children, the choice vernacular from the regulars maybe off putting for some. Not an issue for us as we are ex military, but be advised. That being said, we were made welcome and people spoke to us. Overall, for us it was OK and we had a bed and good food, but the lack of communication between the 3 separate businesses let tit down.

Lovely little hotel & pub, didn’t have breakfast at the cafe as 9am was too late for us. The main positive was the staff at the hotel, in particular Christina. She was very friendly & accomodating, a real asset to the business. Thanks again for a great stay
