This is the second time we have had a meal here, and both times, our experience has been great. The food is lovely and the staff are very attentive and friendly. The pub has a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The wait time for food is perfect. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend a meal here.Food & drinks: I recommend the steak pie and the chilli they are delicious dishes ?

Lovely pub, friendly and attentive staff, who checked on us a couple of times. It was quiet but pleasant and warm.We didn’t eat but enjoyed a drink and the window seat after a very blustery walk from Aysgarth.

Usual warm welcome here, always packed with diners so book in advance to avoid disappointment!December 2023 - Has a lovely traditional Christmas Lunch with a big walking group. Pre-ordered and everyone served at the same time. Good to see (and taste) locally produced Wensleydale Ice Cream - delicious!

What a lovely pub. So friendly, couldnt do enough for us. Food was lovely. Sirloin steak was the best I've had for some time. Breakfast great, hot and efficient Our room was clean and quiet. The pub is in a little village 20 min walk to Aysgarth Falls. We walked to Redmire and got the little white bus to Leyburn. So handy and £2 each way back to Carperby. Would definitely stay again. Thanks you team !!! ?

Called in for lunch on the way back from Castle Bolton. Warm & friendly surroundings. Quick & efficient service even though it was a busy period. Prices were absolutely fine in comparison to others in the area. Would recommend & will certainly call back.

Stayed overnight with partner and father in law and had an excellent time at the wheatsheaf. Staff all very friendly, reasonable prices all around. Evening food very good and a lovely breakfast in the morning before leaving. Will be coming back.

Had Sunday Lunch at this excellent Dales pub. Good roast beef and Yorkshire pud. Looks a really pleasant and well kept inn. I imagine it would be a good place to stay.

We stopped off at The Wheatsheaf for a cup of tea halfway through a walk. It is a lovely traditional pub and the staff are very friendly. Food is served from midday. As it is the pub where Alf Wight (James Herriot) spent his honeymoon I think it would be nice to have some photos or at least one photo of Alf Wight throughout the pub (although there is a plaque outside and inside). May also be worth getting some fruit scones in for passing walkers? Overall a lovely pub in a beautiful location and I have heard that the food is excellent too.

Ate here; the food was delicious and the wait staff friendly and accommodating. When we inquired about James Herriot a.k.a. Alf Wight they showed us the register book page signed by Alf Wight when checking in on their honeymoon, and a letter he wrote to his parents in Glasgow while staying at the inn. Quiet country inn; a special visit for us as fans of Herriot’s books and the “All Creatures Great and Small” TV series.
