We decided to have a break from the Christmas madness staying overnight in Staithes and having dinner at this unassuming little restaurant just down the coast in Port Mulgrave. What can I say? It was a lovely experience, felt like being invited around for tea rather than eating at a fancy restaurant and I mean that in a really good way. Jill and Jason couldn’t have been more friendly and the food was fantastic. I had the crab risotto to start which was fresh and delicious with my wife having the delicate ravioli - it was perfect. Mains were a slab of beautifully cooked Halibut on a bed of grilled fennel - superb with my wife going for the fillet steak - again perfectly cooked on the griddle. Desserts were some lovely blue cheese with quince jelly and a delightfully light panna cotta - the best custard I’ve ever tasted. All in all - what a gem of a place. If you know you are staying nearby - get in touch as early as you can as they are often booked up and it really would be a shame to miss the chance of eating here.

Absolutely perfect. There's no other way to describe this place.Resteraunt 20 uses fresh locally sourced ingredients to serve a somewhat limited albeit exquisite menu, dependent on what is locally available.Service was prompt and informative, whilst not being overbearing. The atmosphere is small, secluded and extremely romantic. What an amazing find.

Both my wife and I agreed, this was the best meal we'd ever had. The flavours were so well put together, and the steaks cooked to perfection. Don't expect a Miller and Carter size menu. We had the option of 3 starters, 2 main courses and 3 puds. But this simply means that every single dish is constructed with care and pride rather than standard food that's just churned out to the masses. All this brought to you by a lovely family in a very cosy atmosphere. We can't wait to go back!

We walked here on a wet and windy evening as a last minute booking. The food was amazing. The front of house lady was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It's a cosy environment and you can tell they really care about the food and their guests. I would visit again if I were in the area. Thank you!

What a joy...top class "cosy" restaurant in tiny Port Mulgrave. Stunning setup, great quality food and with the amazing Sue creating an amazing Yorkshire warmth in her hospitality and chats....all in a small, discreet dining room (Book!). Ravioli and bruschettas to start were perfect and filet steak (perfectly bleu) and char mains were equally delicious. Would highly recommend and will return from London if plans, spawned from Sue's local recommendations to visit the beautiful moors, are fulfilled and turn into walking the Cleveland Way..thanks

What a beautiful quirky place .. family run.. the ambience is perfect and the food outstanding .. small menu but gives neat .. fish and vegetarian menu .. you can see them cooking your food so you know it’s all fine fresh to order .. for the standard of food the price is very fitting .. it’s a must to go but book in advance

My friend and I were celebrating our separate birthdays. A treat to ourselves. What a treat it turned out to be. I had been once before. It was my friends first time ( I’m certain it won’t be her last). I had been to their previous restaurant not far away. Number 20 is a more intimate experience. We were greeted by Sue always welcoming. Coincidentally we both chose exactly the same for each of the three courses. Each morsel was a delight to the palate. This place is a gem to be treasured. Thank you No 20 you for a wonderful evening.

This was the best dining experience me & my husband have ever had at Restaurant Number 20 Me and my husband call ourselves foodies, but this was on a complete other level. Michelin recommended restaurant, Restaurant Number 20 based in Port Mulgrave, has the most amazing, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. The service was perfect, my husband had some questions (this is a common theme?), and Sue was so helpful and insightful ahhhhh it was just so wonderful ? Onto the food - the restaurant has a differing menu every day. There was an option of 3 starters, mains & desserts so we managed 2/3 of the menu: Starters Chargrilled lamb cutlets, bruschetta, chard & lemon Sunsweet melon & prosciutto Mains Turbot fillet, organic spello lentils and peas, marsh samphire, salsa verde & lemon oil Wild sea bass fillet, grilled polenta, roast red pepper, courgette trifolati, anchovy & rosemary sauce Desserts Burnt cheesecake & roast apricot New season raspberries, ricotta & lemon The food was absolutely out of this world, I know it's very random but I can't stop thinking about that roasted apricot ? Honestly, would recommend this 1000x over, we will definitely be back!!

As a solo diner, I was made to feel very welcome. My fillet steak was cooked to perfection and was definitely the best I've tasted in any restaurant I've visited. I loved the ambience of the restaurant, and the staff couldn't have done enough for everyone present. It's a very friendly place and diners feel very comfortable indeed. I cannot recommend it highly enough; all visitors to this beautiful part of the world should go and enjoy a superb dining experience at Number 20!

Truly the best meal I’ve ever had. The restaurant has a beautiful, friendly ambience. The owner was extremely knowledgable and welcoming to myself and my girlfriend and really enhanced the experience. The food was incredible and so well thought out; each dish was unique, fresh and delicious. I truly can’t recommend Restaurant Number 20 enough.

Delicious food. Small restaurant with short menu and wine list. Real food cooked superbly - no tweezers have artfully places a minuscule flower petal! Crab pasta some of the best I’ve had and local trout excellent. Highly recommended

We decided to eat here having read many fantastic recommendations and found the restaurant to be even better. Wonderful fresh ingredients carefully prepared in the immaculate little kitchen beside the dining room. The food was excellent, the restaurant was cosy and charming, and everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. They are only open on certain days so it is very important to book well in advance. A must for any foodies staying in the area.

Small cover restaurant with an understandably narrow menu. Good quality ingredients but safe. What could have been a pleasant experience was ruined by has been opinionated elderly front of staff who quite possibly had done their time at Royston Vassey. This restaurant has all the criteria essential for an immediate failure so book immediately.

Gastronomic highlight of our trip to Whitby! I had an expertly cooked crab risotto in which all the flavours came through at different points….delicious. Followed by John Dory with very tasty accompaniments. A simple dessert of panna cotta and chocolate finished the meal perfectly. What’s not to like ?

It's a very good restaurant. A bit pricey but worth it. Book well in advance, they are not well known yet and only open when the numbers are sufficient.
