Me, the wife and our very friendly Labrador went out of our way, walking through several fields in the dark of winter to visit what looked like a cosy countryside inn: we were after a couple of early evening ales. We liked the look of the place and thought we were onto a winner, only to find a large sign on the entrance stating NO DOGS. We found this bizarre for a pub called the fox and HOUNDS which is in such a rural location. The place looks old world and a bit tired so can’t imagine this was anything to do with looking after the carpets or furniture. I can only presume that the owners don’t like dogs. Anyways, that’s as far as my review goes. One star for being completely out of sync with it’s location and surroundings, and for the wasted walk we had trying to give the place some much needed business (it was empty).

A little gem! We loved our visit here, the food was superb and we felt really welcome at this lovely local. When we are next in the area we will definitely return. The steak pie and venison casserole are both recommended. A big thank you from us to everyone at The Fox and Hounds.

Visited three times over weekend and all three times we were treated fantastically by the friendly staff, Paul in particular. The food was spot on, the beer was too( and cheap) and the back room is everything I would want from a country pub in winter, warm fire and comfy settees. Can’t recommend the place high enough and will definitely re visit

Came across this pub by accident during a walk. Would highly recommend Sunday

Excellent food. Felt very welcome. I can see why dogs aren’t allowed in, as there is not a lot of space. Staying next door made from a very short walk home.

We were staying in Staithes and stumbled across this pub whilst out for a walk. What an absolute gem of a place. Friendly, welcoming and very accommodating seen as how we had not booked to dine (recommended) We both agreed it was one of the best roast dinners we had had when eating out in a long long time. A comfortable friendly local pub with an open fire. A refreshing change to see no dogs are allowed inside- brilliant for those with fur allergies I’d say. Landlord and staff are chatty, accommodating and do a fabulous job. You’ll be hard pushed to find a better pub than this. Keep up the good work. I would not hesitate to recommend visiting here.
Lovely quirky little inn, very cute and cosy. The hosts were lovely, couldn't do enough for you. We decided to book a table for later that day. The food was fine, although the vegetables were frozen I believe and had been a tad overcooked. Like I said the food was fine but I just didn't feel it warranted the prices charged for it. Would definitely call back for a drink though, gorgeous little place

Nice friendly old school place. Doesn't actually open until 4 so don't plan on lunch, but very pleasant
