This is my favourite place in Whitby you’re always made welcome. They do fabulous cocktails that no one can do like these do great vibe I feel like I’m in a little French bar in the mountains when actually I’m only on Church Street in Whitby.. My favourite cocktails Are gin brambles, old-fashioned And Aperol Spritz.. You won’t be disappointed when you step into this place x

This charming, atmospheric, intimate, friendly little place plays classic French songs (French exchange with the school in the sixties, anyone?) and serves glorious espresso martinis, so good we came back on our last night in Whitby for more. They were best on the night where two delightful French (I believe) women were behind the bar. I wish somewhere like this would open near me.

I worked in cocktail bars for nearly a decade, and as a result I struggle to find anywhere that makes classic cocktails to my standard - until now. First time me and the Mrs have been for drinks that I haven’t complained about them.Properly made cocktails, great atmosphere, brilliant staff and decent price. Can’t wait to get back to Whitby to drink more delicious elixirs.Absolute gem. 10/10.

Fabulous!!!! Loved the gorgeous location and the old building - perfect for a Montmartre inspired bar/cafe......felt like I was in the french movie "Amelie"....... So.......a rainy December night, the welcoming, warm, cosy lights twinkling through the antique windows (anyone familiar with Lapin Agile in Paris will love this.....) coaxed us inside.... We entered through the little rickety door to a gorgeous bar/cafe stuffed with everything french, and were warmly greeted by a lovely man behind the bar (Sunday 10th December). Charles Aznavour was gently crooning in the background, a couple of regulars installed at the bar - all lovely. Husband and I chose a couple of "hot toddies" from the imaginative drinks menu........"Marie's Curie" (hot rum, toffee syrup, apple) and "Edith Piaf" (hot gin, raspberry and pomegranate, lime) - they arrived in large retro glass mugs on silver saucers - perfect... As we soaked up the atmosphere I had a couple of questions for the barman - any chance of playing some really old vintage french chanson, and did he have a pack of playing cards? "Oui" to both questions. We had a wonderful time with our delicious, clever drinks, our card games, the beautiful songs, and watching more customers arrive to soak up the magic. How much did our evening cost, including un petit tip for the barman? £15 - how good is that? We will be back - hopefully we will meet the genius behind this concept next time - Monsieur Jean Claude.... Chapeau Monsieur, chapeau ?

I had checked on TripAdvisor if this cafe/bar was dog friendly and understood that it was…. But we were turned away with our small dog and told we had to sit outside. Mid November on a damp and drizzly night was not an option. We, as a couple with a dog, have traveled extensively in France and our dog has always been welcomed, in fact really included…. If Cafe Montmarte is proclaiming to be “French” you really need to revisit your ethos as the French welcome dogs, as do most other cafe/bars in Whitby…. We spent our money elsewhere!

This little cafe & bar is an absolute must visit in Whitby. If you want to find Parisian don’t go to Paris come here, you’ll not regret it!

Great atmosphere, stopped off for a cocktail with my niece and sister, cosy little set up. A bit expensive to what we're used to paying but not sure of the area on prices. Worth a try and friendly staff.

We come to Whitby regularly for the Goth Festival (but we mainly come to Whitby because it’s Whitby!!). We discovered Cafe Monmartre in Oct 22 and returned again in Oct 23. The service, quality of cocktails and cordiality of the team running this place was great then and just as great now. The staff make you feel so welcome that this place feels like home. I heartily recommend this lovely little cafe for a coffee or something a little more grown-up. Ignore any negative reviews about this place - they are simply unfounded. Happy Halloween Cafe Monmartre team - looking forward to seeing you all again in 2024.
