Just had a takeaway from here and can’t fault it. All very tasty. Best pie I’ve had in a longtime….since my own probably. Nice lads, good service, great pie and mash. What else could you wish for in a pie and mash shop.

Was in today ordered mince and onion pie, was given a beef and ale pie which was a bit burnt but tasted ok but don’t think it was freshly baked , maybe too long in the oven, also ordered a glass of milk with my meal, got the milk which was warm and asked the staff to change it, which he did.. nice place but really need staff to be on the ball with orders and service..

My mate suggested this place after having a few drinks in Whitby. To be honest I would have just walked past without noticing it, but so glad we called in. Quirky 40's feel, very friendly staff and tremendous pies. Just basic but tasty and filling food, will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

Great traditional food, great hospitality, good value. All served up in an olde world cafe. Ideal for couples who want to eat in peace. Have to visit here every time we come to Whitby. The downside is that I haven’t got round to trying Whitby fish and chips yet!

The place itself is filled with old, mismatched stuff … to give the atmosphere of the War. We waited around 15 minutes for anyone to approach us for an order and a total of an hour before the “ humble pie and mash “ appeared.. Small portions, incorrect type of peas ( even though the young waiter had asked twice which ones were wanted), lumpy mash and pies were adequate but not amazing. Over £11 for a small enamel dish was not a humble price. Pastry on one pie was undercooked. The place was nearly empty and the menu very limited so no excuse. Not a place we will be seeking out again.

All I can say is what a find, such a quaint little place and freshly made pies to your order and great value. I have recommended my friends whom I know were visiting Whitby later and they were delighted

It's OK is just about as good as it deserves. We had called by earlier in the day to see about making a booking, but it is turn up take a chance of getting in. We did around 6pm just as well as others arrived after us and were told they had run out of mashed potato. Pity we hadn't waited, I made the mistake of having something resembling coffee, we waited ages for our food, steak and ale for me, chicken bacon and mushroom for the wife, mine had beef and no ale, the wife's the chicken was tuff over cooked, the mash was lumpy so if you want reminding of old school days knock yourself out. I know it is difficult to find a place not doing fish and chips in Whitby but really how does this rate at 4.7?Will not be going back

About 5 tables downstairs & 6 upstairs (mind your head on low doorway with no warning sign, nearly knocked myself out) - first place I’ve been in where they’ve run out of glasses for the soft drinks !!!! Ordered 2 pies & mash which eventually arrived after a 57 minute wait. Guessing the Whitby mums used to make lumpy mash - poor when the USP is poor. To be fair steak pie was quite nice & the very young staff tried their best - didn’t bother with puddings didn’t want to spend another hour waiting. Got in at 6pm by 7:20 place was shutting - guess they’d run out of lumps - wouldn’t go again

Who doesn’t like pie and mash? Homemade pies. Worth a visit. Only a small menu but I liked it. Theme of place is ww2 with music to match

We had not visited for a while, but had always previously enjoyed the pie n mash. But not any more. We ordered pie n mash with gravy, my wife's with garden and mine with mushy peas. Firstly, the cafe was cold and devoid of customers. (Odd as previously it has always been packed out with Happy customers? ) The service was slow and impersonal and the food nothing but a shadow of that we had had previously and grown to expect. The menu boasts 'mash like your mother made?' Not my mum, as it was very lumpy and only just warm enough. Our beef and ale pies were not much better, looking as though an attempt had been made to keep them warm and resulting in them being hard and overcooked. Perhaps the tea was OK!. We ate our meals, paid and left. I doubt we will be returning.

Delicious pie and mash in a traditional setting. Good price and staff friendly. Would recommend and will be returning when next come to Whitby

We were on holiday in Whitby and had researched places to eat and this was definitely one to go to! We didn’t eat in as earlier we’d walked to Robin Hood’s Bay and just wanted to get back to our flat. Great value and absolutely delicious. Chicken and leek pie for me with peas and gravy, and steak an ale for my husband with mash, mushy peas and gravy. We took them home in a box and still piping hot!

Been here a number of times over the years and it's now become one of our 'must do' things we do when we come to Whitby. We went at bang on midday and was greeted with the lovely aroma of the food cooking from the kitchen. I had steak & Kidney with lashings of Henderson Relish which is made in Sheffield my home city. Absolutely gorgeous food, lovely staff and always a warm welcome.

Fabulous food and the young girl who served us today was one of the best waitresses for warmth and service I have ever experienced. She’s an absolute credit to the place

Been meaning to visit Humble Pie n Mash for ages, and finally got to enjoy a trip to this little gem of a place. The menu I thought was excellent, with enough variety available, whilst sticking to the 'pie and mash' objective. The drink and dessert options were fitting, whilst the old-time background music and decor made you feel like you had been taken back in time. The two of us really enjoyed out meal here, and are already looking forward to a return visit. The prices were very reasonable, with a pleasant sit down meal for 2 coming in at less than £30. Thankyou HP'n'M!
