Lovely early supper for four of us. Nicely focused menu. We had the goats cheese tart, fish cakes and black pudding for starters; followed by the baked aubergine, lamb and surf and turf. Rarely make it to desert but the pear trifle and banoffi were delicious. Excellent, personal service and not surprised they were fully booked! Highly recommend.

Food, staff, all absolutely awesome. I think I just had the best Sunday dinner I've ever had, starter was the fish main shared, then 2 mains shared of Beef and Lamb, gravy was delicious and even the cheese sauce on the cauliflower was 10/10. A bottle of red. Now for a sleep.

What can I say? The food was just fabulous here. I got a very nice lamb dish and my wife really enjoyed her tasty fish dish. I believe the pictures say it all. We both took a magnificent meringue as dessert to end a very nice evening. Very good address for dinner in York.

This place was recommended by Rick Steves and it exceeded our high expectations. The menu is limited, but the food was FANTASTIC! Full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Service was also quick! Recommend the duck or the stake.

Friday evening: The service was so friendly and courteous, matched by really good ingredients cooked well. I eat out a lot and this place is a little gem. Its a small and quite intimate place but doesnt feel starchy or too formal. I felt awful afterwards when I discovered that we hadn’t tipped - this was a complete oversight (glasses issue) - definitely meant to.
As per other reviewers, my wife and I thought the food here was very good. There were a couple of improvements we think could be made though. Firstly the wine was very average. Secondly the restaurant could do with someone skilled in interior design to give it some more ambience. Both seem like relatively small improvements which could really lift this venue up a level.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had, not cheap at £25 per main but absolutely worth every penny. The chef took away our dessert plates and I told him how incredible the black sesame ice-cream was. He looked genuinely so pleased which reflected the passion taken to put together each dish. There are many good places to eat in York and it was a tough to choose but we definitely made the right choice! We might even see if we can get in today for lunch!

Visited here as usual on our annual visit to York, however this time because we love it so much we came both nights! First night starters Pigeon and Black pudding, mains sea bream and lamb. Second night starters Pigeon and chicken shawarma, mains duck and pasta ragu. Could only manage dessert one night of banoffee . All food excellent standard , presentation and accompaniments well thought out! Martin and the staff are amazing! So friendly, even the Chef's look up and acknowledge you on arrival. Fantastic ambience! One fault only....you're too far away from us! Can't wait to return next year!
