I've eaten lots of food from South India and Sri Lanka over the years and this was my first time eating here. I had the soft shell crab and their special dosa for lunch, plus a glass of mint infused salty lassi. Hands down one of the best meals I've had. Fresh tasting and perfectly spiced. I'd have stopped and eaten more but sadly had somewhere to get to.Service was great. Warm and friendly and happily talked with me about the food.This will now be my go to when in York. Another plus is that it is very well located.The restaurant was recommended to my partner by a colleague from Kerala and it did not disappoint.A few very good places to have a drink very close by before or after too.Highly recommend.

We south Indians like things spicy, so do speak to the staff before ordering to adjust to your spice level Cheers to the Kalpakavadi team ! :)P.S to restaurant - Local south Indian desserts would be nice touch for people to try in future ;)

This is not your usual Indian restaurant, probably because it is more authentic than most.We did book for a Sunday lunchtime but it was surprisingly quiet. I'm not sure why because the food was excellent. Really good quality and so very tasty. The service was friendly and very welcoming. A good experience all round.

Unique menu that’s outstanding. Beetroot and okra side dishes are amazing !! Dosa was beautiful and parathas fresh and light. The staff are exceptional !!

Never been in an Indian restaurant with Indian diners in it that’s all you need to know. Great food , lovely flavours , makes difference to the normal heavy curries swimming in oil with the same base sauces. Not overly priced but absolute quality.

Authentic Indian cuisine. Ordered beef fry, mutton biyani, aubergine and dosa- all items were very good. Staff was very hospitable. Planning to visit next time soon.
