Had been looking forward to coming to The Star for a long time. Beautiful evening and a table with a great view on the terrace. Fab waitress. Lovely wine. However I was rather disappointed with my main course. Braised ox cheek with risotto. I requested baby potatoes or fries rather than risotto but apparently chef wouldn't have been happy. The ox cheek was delicious but luke warm. The risotto was too creamy and gooey for my liking. All in all a great place to be but I've def had better food elsewhere for less money. And without a 15% service charge added to the bill.

Disappointed in the meal. Bland and watery potatoes. Good cheese board, good service, but expect better of an Michelin starred owner

Great food. Location. Atmosphere Let down by bad service. It took 3 prompts and 20 mins to receive a menu.

An excellent meal with attentive and friendly service in a lovely venue. What could you ask more?
It was our first visit here and will definitely return. It's a few notches up from your Sunday lunch in the local pub but for us it was a special occasion meeting old fiends for a meal. Great they also offered a fish and vegetarian option. Between us we had the beef, lamb roasts and the fish fish - all were delicious. Our waiter Kayleigh was wonderful!

Thoroughly recommend this restaurant Sat outside for a drink on the terrace first, great food and great service. Would definitely go again

Excellent food, excellent service, only disappointment was that, initially, we were given warm white wine. The excellent waitress rectified this for us fairly promptly, but it should never happen in a restaurant of this standard.

Food was very average. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. The food was bland I would describe the mains as pud grub.

I have to say first that I have never before felt strongly enough about a restaurant experience to leave a review. Having been recommended this place by several friends we expected to have a great meal and experience with our family for a "significant " anniversary. Service was incredibly slow and when this was raised, I was advised that all tables were being serviced in order which was totally incorrect. At least 3 other tables in view finished well before we received the main course. I also don't appreciate being told that I am wrong when this was patently the case. I can only speak for my main which was v poor and extremely dry with a few new potatoes. A dessert was offered for free . I chose a pannacota which at best was chocolate mousse in a glass. Some of the others also has issues but I don't feel it appropriate to comment on their food as I didn't taste it. Simply put I have never been so disappointed with a restaurant experience for somewhere that is supposed to be fine dining. This has really tarnished a great weekend spent in York which I don't appreciate.
