Second time at the dawney arms and it was as good as the first time . Good service ,very good food coupled with a nice atmosphere for reasonably priced food. Recommend to several friends and work colleagues.

Lovely country pub with warm and welcoming staff.Stopped in for lunch after visiting a National Trust property and were pleasantly surprised with a full Ploughman’s and cider. We’d definitely visit again if we were in the area.

The food was very tasty and arrived in a timely manner. The menu is a bit more unusual with venison, scallops and baked Alaska. We'll definitely come back. Well deserved 5 stars!

Very good food at a reasonable price. Lots of local produce - the locally shot pheasant was a stand out dish. Wine list is surprisingly varied for a country pub - very welcome! We will definitely return. Service great also - really welcoming and nice no-fuss waiters.

The menu is a special mix of easy eating, fine dining and kid-friendly items, all served in a warm, friendly environment. I can’t recommend this place enough.Parking: Drive in! There are a few parking spaces close to the road, but if you drive in past those there are more spaces round back, along with a dedicated entrance to the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: They have a dedicated kids menu (including desert) which offers food that’s up to the restaurant’s standards but still appealing to kids. My 6yr old loved the burger and my 2yr old said the pasta was yummy!

This is an excellent place to eat, lovely position by the river, not best appreciated in December! Welcoming, prompt, friendly, efficient service, could not have been better. Brought lovely starters for the greedier members of the party, but ensured that didn't delay main courses too much, which were all brought out together, the various fish dishes were all excellent as was the pheasant. Not to mention lovely puds. I can only assume they were not full because they had quite rightly geared their bookings to the staff they had. Do your best to experience this pub/restaurant.

Excellent country pub in Newton-on-Ouse.All staff are friendly and knowledgeable.A good selection of bar snacks, small meals, and main meals are available. Check the specials board too. There are dishes on there I've never tried.Always the first visit when we arrive. 3 to 4 Ales on too, all fine and looked after.

What a fabulous pub this is, great atmosphere, real fires, warm and friendly. Six of us ate here for an impromptu birthday celebration, the land lady and staff were so friendly, the food was delicious, hubby loved the selection of beers and the overall atmosphere was relaxed with candles on the tables and chilled out background music. We would definitely recommend eating here, thank you to you all, we will be back x

Came across The Dawnay Arms whilst visiting the area. Staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. Lunch was wonderful. Best mushroom soup I have had. The seafood pancakes were delicious. My husband had the ploughman’s. A lovely selection of meat and cheeses. The bread was fresh, light and just perfect. Everything was served well and the food was hot. We were so impressed.

Mediocre at best. Venison Burger for £18 was dry, bland and poorly presented. Menu choice was uninspiring, in contrast to the Lunches which are excellent. Charging £24 for a £6 Bottle of Merlot is a ripoff at best. A disappointing experience.

Enjoyed a family lunch at the Dawnay Arms on Saturday afternoon. It was reasonably busy for a weekend lunch time, so we were seated in the dining room area. Between us we chose haddock & chips, chicken, ham & leek pie and a sandwich with fries. Everything came together, the food was delicious, fresh ingredients and generous portions (especially the haddock and chips!)Parking: There's a small carpark at the rear of the pub

If you're into scallops then these were the best we have ever tasted. Beautiful cooked in a parsley crust served on 2 shells. We both said how delicious they were! We both chose the ham hock chicken and leek pie with champ mash and buttered green beans. Pie's were good and my partner, being a pie connoiser enjoyed his and mine as I couldn't eat mine after finding a large piece of bone! The restaurant itself was nice, perhaps a little more uparket than some of the others in the area and we were recommended to visit. The waitress service was great, very attentive and friendly and definitely made our experience worth a mention. Menu appeared varied with a takeaway option. We may try one of the pizzas on offer another time.
