Tried these as I heard good reviews about them, personally thought they were overrated, the chips are the ones which are bought in and taste of the oil they are cooked in on the plus side the Chicken nuggets were nice as they were proper chicken.They were average. You can try and see what you think.

We stopped off here on the way back to York and thought we would give it a go. Fish and chips all round they were very good as well. Friendly staff very help with our choices would definitely recommend and will be eating their again. Had the Giant Haddock and chips. These are two Haddock fillets, which was great crunchy coating with large pieces of flaky fish ? fantastic..Parking: There was plenty of room to park, and we were there just before 12, so we were expecting it to be busy, I was great straight in, and to a table, the order was taken and arrived very quickly. No issues at all

New Year’s Day early evening dinner and it was absolutely amazing. The food and service (by Jenny the waitress in the restaurant) was outstanding. There were 5 of us that all had something different from the menu and it was all fresh, hot and tasty. Thank you for such a lovely experience and totally appreciate you were very busy but nothing was too much trouble. Happy New Year!

We called here on the way back from Castle Howard myself, husband and the 2 boys we all got fish and chips and the youngest got a kids meal chicken bites and chips was lovely and very fast service the boys also had dessert my youngest was included in the kids meal we just added the chocolate cake and the other got a sundae but he couldn't finish it all case of eyes greedily than belly lol as he was full from the fish and chips. The food was lovely and filling will definitely call again.

Simply Excellent, we’re originally from Malton but moved away in 2015. Every time we come back we stop here as the food and service is excellent. Portion sizes are great (probably too generous!). The fish and chips down south just can’t compete.

Had fish and chips lunch on the way back from Castle Howard. The meal was just as good as Wetherby Whaler. Just didn't have a chandelier and piano. Well worth trying.

5 stars all around! Great staff, the Cod fillet, chips, peas and curry/gravy were perfect! Best fish & chips in York!! If you're still not full after an ample amount of food... The puddings are divine!

We've driven past too many times, but we finally stopped in. We were greeted and seated promptly. The menu was quite extensive, but we were there for good old fish and chips. We both ordered the 8-10oz haddock with chips and mushy peas. The food arrived quickly and what a serving!! Huge! The batter on the fish was one of the best I've ever had! Light, crispy, no sogginess on the inside, and not greasy or oily. The chips were perfect. As were the mushy peas. All in all, some of the best fish and chips I've had since moving to Yorkshire!

Amending from my previous 5* rating as on a recent visit I was forced to leave without consuming either fish or chips, as despite having checked the website before my journey to check they were open, I arrived to find the site was incorrect and a note in the door informing me they were infact closed. There was a steady stream of vehicles pulling in and out of the car park who had obviously also had wasted journeys.
Called in here on a early Saturday evening. This is the best fish & chips we have ever eaten. Good portion sizes, all freshly cooked to order Love the fact you get bread & butter & the option of a pot of tea! (other drinks are available!).. So typically English but just so totally delightful. This was our second visit due to staying in local accommodation, we are booked to return next November & we will most definitely be eating here again.

We waited for quite some time to be seated, even though there were lots of tables available. While we were waiting, we moved out of the way for a wheelchair user to leave the restaurant, and one of the waitresses then rolled her eyes at us for being in HER way! (For just a few seconds), Even though the carer, wheelchair user or ourselves had nowhere else to go. Space is tight. This waitress was unfortunately not very friendly. I asked for a quiet table as my son is neurodivergent, and so I requested the one in the corner. It was available but she tried to insist that we sit at a table in the middle of the room. When we were finally seated at the table in the corner, (after explaining about my son), she then sat a family with a crying baby/toddler on the table next to us, (even though there were still lots of tables available), why?!!! We had to rush our meal, quickly eat and rush to leave as my son was so dysregulated. Had the restaurant been full, I would have understood more. But it was more than half empty. We had visited at a quiet time to avoid it being too busy and noisy and explained our son’s needs. A little consideration and understanding would go a long way. The food was very nice, hence the 3 bubbles.

I pass this restaurant on quite a regular basis, on the way to the seaside and on the to places like flamingo land. It is very difficult to drive past and not make a stop. The food is always of the highest quality and the portions are always very generous. We were able to be seated quickly in the very well presented restaurant. This visit was just like the other with swift service and amazing quality food. The service on this visit did lack a personal touch, the waitress seemed tired and fed up, clearly not wanting to be there. When I made a simple request of having just brown bread with me meal she snapped 'it comes mixed' without anything further being said about it. There was no allergy or dietary requirement checks, if there was my reasoning for only being able to have brown bread would've become apparent. I almost felt a nuisance making any further requests after this. Next time I pass, I can guarantee I will be returning. The service this time though, did let down the experience.
