We returned to Eighty One today as we previously had the soup and toasty combo which we’d really enjoyed. The bill was a lot more than expected which I questioned after paying. I was told that they’d accidentally printed out old menus despite the price mirroring the menu displayed outside also. We were told that the price has increased by £4 per order which seemed quite hefty and we felt that the price displayed should have been the price honoured. However the thing that annoyed us more was the attitude of the woman that we spoke to when she was called over by the male server. We were made to feel like a total inconvenience and that it was our problem not hers. A more gracious response would have been appreciated. Needless to say we won’t be back. The customer service in general was poor which is a pity as on the previous occasion we’d had a much more positive experience.

Went for lunch recently. The cafe was packed but straight away we were shown to a table. Loved the decor and the very comfortable velvet chairs. Even though they were busy the service was quick and our waitress was very friendly. I got the potato and leek soup with wheaten bread. It was really nice and a big portion. I can see why they had lots of repeat customers!

Took the grandkids here for brunch. They had a waffle with chocolate and marshmallows. My wife had a scone and a cappuccino and I had the soup of the day which was pea and basil with croutons and it was terrific. The service was friendly and the atmosphere nice. Will definitely be back.Kid-friendliness: Nice kids menu although a couple of items were off the list.

Popped in for lunch for 4 of us. Nice staff, good coffee and atmosphere. However we ordered the Toasted Ciabatta and beef roll, both had obviously been warmed up in the microwave and were really soggy bread and the beef was dry. When you don't have much to offer in terms of toasted sandwiches, you should make sure they are actually toasted. The salad meals on the table next to us looked much better. Shame really but I doubt we will be back.
