Delightful thatched whitewashed cottage with very cosy interior. We had a really warm welcome and outstanding service. Our lunches all featured quality ingredients beautifully presented which we did enjoy. Most certainly this restaurant is excellent in every way and we will go back next time we are in Northern Ireland. Seamus Heaney is strongly featured and his museum is nearby. I strongly recommend this great restaurant.

We are home from our recent family staycation in River Bann retreat! Thought we would leave some reviews on our experiences. Stopped into Thatch Inn by chance on the Sunday after hearing good things about the place, and got the best table in the house, right beside the t.v. for the Derry v Kerry match! Food was lovely, service was great and great atmosphere! Highly recommend the pepper sauce! Definitely be back!

Lunch, family meal, drinks, private party …… the thatch is my number one fav spot for it all! I love the atmosphere & the food is always great, even for a fussy eater like myself! Also serves the best bramble cocktail around!!

I have stopped in here 3 times now for dinner on a Sunday evening with no luck, the first time I went in at 7pm and I was informed the kitchen had just closed so I left again, the second time I went was at 6:40pm and again the kitchen had just closed so I went around to the public bar for a drink where I waited 20 minutes to be given a drink then on the third time I went it was 6:25pm and to my surprise yet again the kitchen had just closed, the main reason I keep trying is because I was told the food is good and on thier website it states the restaurant is open to 8 on a Sunday, I will not be stopping for food again to be disappointed for the fourth time

Recently celebrated our Mam's 80th birthday here! Booked last minute for a large family buffet and luckily they were able to squeeze us in between. Cannot praise these girls enough, food was fantastic and service was amazing, nothing was a problem for these girls even tho they were busy we were very well seen too and we never once felt rushed, even with our limited time! Thankyou thatch staff we had a great afternoon, We'll be back

They would not honor a meal voucher given to me for my birthday because it was just over three months past the expiry date. Their vouchers are valid for only six months, printed in very small writing. As an O.A.P. I struggled to read this. I found their attitude appalling when I queried this strict rule. They had no hesitation in keeping the money paid for the voucher. And restaurants are complaining how difficult it is to survive in the present climate. Take the money and supply nothing. Not bad.

The food we got for our mains was nice enough but the service was lacking…a lot. We had ordered drinks and had to ask again about them after waiting another 10 minutes, similar was waiting to be cleared. The dessert was also not what we asked for and left we left it untouched, it took a staff member nearly 20 mins to approach us as they seemed to be looking every other direction, although when they did I will admit they were friendly but as a service not great. Overall I’m disappointed as the last family meal we had here was quite good.

Great Christmas dinner, turkey and especially ham were beautiful and of very good quality. The stewed beef (daube) was class also. We had salted chilli chicken and garlic mushrooms to start which were lovely. The thatch is very homely inside and has a nice atmosphere. The reason I’d give it 4 and not a 5 is the cocktails were just OK (espresso martini and bramble) and the service wasn’t great at all. Don’t get me wrong - lots of young people walking around and asking you if you need anything, but I think it might be better if they assigned your waiter/waitress to your table for the duration of the meal. We ordered a glass of wine each after our dinner and it didn’t come for almost 30 mins. We were then approached and asked if we wanted anything else, so we ordered an Irish coffee and calypso coffee. Next think all 4 drinks arrived at the same time, wine and coffee. It seems like the staff have no idea of what’s going on at various tables, asking if you want a drink after you’ve just ordered one, or asking if you want to order dinner when it has been ordered etc. I don’t think they’re the friendliest staff either but they are quite young. Food was great but service and drinks left wanting.

Excellent local food and drinks in a truly authentic, but updated and bright, clean Irish pub. Very friendly service too.

This is the complaint I sent to The Old Thatch Inn last week. Dear Manager/Proprietor "As regular customers, I booked a table for 3 for Sunday lunch on 31st July and noted with delight there was fillet steak on the menu without a surcharge. After double checking the menu, my friend ordered the fillet and thoroughly enjoyed it, as our mutual friend and I enjoyed our traditional Sunday lunch. Our various deserts were delicious and sweet. However, after I'd paid for my own meal, I noted with alarm that my friend was charged £11 more than expected for their meals. When I queried this because the booking was in my name, I was haughtily reminded that 1 of us had ordered fillet steak, and of course there was a surcharge for that. When I quietly refuted that fact, and said there was no surcharge on the menu, she argued with me, saying there certainly was. When I noticed my friend was getting more and more distressed, I dropped the matter; but it left me with a very sour aftertaste as I felt she'd been wrongly charged - cheated. To add insult to injury, as we left, passing the meet and greet counter, that same woman had a handful of menus and was systematically making a mark beside the fillet steak on each one!!! I was outraged, but to spare any embarrassment I left it at that, resolving to never return. But ever since, it has bothered me that such a great establishment should suffer because of one staff member when other diners might be/have been treated in the same way, and not informed you. If that is the case, you are fighting a losing battle and losing valuable custom. This complaint is meant as constructive criticism, as we have always had such great lunches at the Old Thatch; our compliments to your chef!" The following week, the manager - who turned out to be the person who I'd dealt with - responded and denied my objection; as good as calling us old fogeys and myself a liar. By then she'd had 2 chances to rectify the complaint and restore our faith, but failed miserably. We won't be back, but we still say "Compliments to the chef; our meals were always delicious."

The worst thing happened after a long walk an abandoned pub! We had walked up to this pub after visiting my grandfather's grave on his 100 birthday. Despite this site, google and there own website saying it's open 11 to 11 every day it appears to be closed. When we called the website number there was no answer and the website hasn't been updated since 2020. I think it might be redeveloped as the new owner and her designer turned up to discussed planned changes. I didnt butt in and ask directly so I dont if the closure is permanent or temporary. It's a really pretty building so it be a shame if it was permanently shut. The designer was very nice and gave us a lift to the bus station in toomebridge to save another walk!

Each time I’ve been to the Thatch Inn, the food has been great. Big portions and tasty food. My last visit was with a group of 10, our food all came out at the same time and not one person had any complaints. Staff were attentive and friendly, in particular Michaela was great. Have always recommended this place to others and will definitely be back again very soon.

The wife was working, so I decided to go out with the children for something to eat. I had "The Thatch Sandwich". Biggest sandwich I ever saw. Delicious too. Loads of sides. 4 clean plates were left for the waitresses. Very enjoyable.

A lovely little pub with great service and freshly prepared food that takes a while but is well worth it. I have eaten here several times now and never been disappointed.
