We have always love the majestic Slieve Donnard hotel and it’s amazing location right on the beach overlooking the mountains. Unfortunately this experience was lacking compared to previous visits when it had been part of the Hastings group. On the plus side everything is newly refurbished and the furnishings and bathrooms, common areas etc, are immaculate. The new dark decor, coupled with very few spotlights in our room made it very dark, one part of the room got natural light but the area around the tv, wardrobes etc was very dark, as there was just one tiny spotlight to light the whole area. The toiletries are a new brand ( we definitely missed the ESPA), but still provided along with plenty of towels. We were staying for my husbands birthday and had the lovely touch of 2 birthday muffins being delivered to our room. Breakfast seemed slightly less choice and when we arrived a lot of the items were empty and took some time to be replenished, but what we did have was delicious, and great service from the staff in the restaurant. We had arrived slightly early for check in, and were told we would recieve a text when our room was ready, which we did, around 2pm. This was a nice benefit so we could head up to the room early. Now the downside, we have always enjoyed staying here and enjoying ample access to the spa facilities (often using the peel of being allowed to use it before check in and and again for a few hours after check out). We were informed at check in that you must go to the spa in your robes and no lockers would be available (despite there being plenty in the changing area!) , and on the morning of check out told again we could not brining any belongings down to the spa to use up until check out time or after. This was a shame as it always is why we chose this hotel over others, to make good use of the spa facilities. Also, be sure to book very early if you want a treatment as I could not get anything booked 2/3 weeks before arrival!

My stay at this hotel was a comedy of errors. The initial room had a broken shower, so they moved me to another, only to find it already occupied so we got send to a room that was in use I had to go to the manager to have it cleaned . The cherry on top? Breakfast was cold The only thing that was warm was the toast on the coffee . What has happened to this hotel ?????

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Slieve recently when we got to experience the new refurbishment. The Slieve has the perfect combination of elegant ambience, delicious food and friendly staff.

You must visit this hotel as it is now my favourite and it is because of the staff especially Rachel and the food is of the highest quality. It has just had a new makeover and what stunning decor awaits you.Our room was the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot of rooms.Just when things can’t get any better when you walk out of the hotel the Mourne mountains are in the foreground stunning.

Outstanding refurbished hotel and as another guest said to me "better than the Galgorm! " I was attending a family wedding and I can honestly say that the whole experience was the best I've ever had in the whole of Ireland including the Culloden! Bedroom was superb with the softest of pillows. The food was outstanding as was the service, and the breakfast definitely catered EVERYTHING! All needs met. There were children at the wedding and even the fussiest eater was catered for. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.. I will definitely return for weekend break with all the amenities that they provide (especially the food ?❤️)

First time at the Slieve, service, staff, food ? well deserved 5 ?. Friendly staff to help with anything you need. Children well catered for with a breakfast for champions. You cannot put a price on that view.

The hotel has just undergone a £16m refurbishment, so we were glad to avail ourselves of a chance to make a return visit. The new company has certainly made it modern and comfortable, with well trained staff who are happy to address the smallest problem. The rooms are generously spacious-ours had an attractive seating area with views both of the strand and the Mourne Golf Club. Indeed the golf packages clearly are a popular and attractive prospect, but the residents are attracted by so much more! We are into National Trust houses and such like and several are within easy reach. Dublin (Castle, Trinity College and national capital) is an hour and a half away on good roads. Mount Stewart makes a lovely outing, crossing Strangford Lough on the ferry. You return to an hotel with a great Spa, three separate dining facilities and a comfortable lounge bar. Reception and all restaurants are generously staffed-you will not be left unattended when you need help. Moreover, pre-booked packages work out as very economical, but then you are committed to going on the dates you choose, with one re-book offered in exigency. However, the September weather proved ideal for sightseeing and flights were economical at this time of the year too. One there the breakfast sets you up for the day! Any drawbacks? The decor can be overwhelming according to your tastes with loud patterned carpets in corridors and tartan on bedroom floors! We had to adjust lighting sources within the room, where dark walls and secluded lighting may give atmosphere but do not help you pore over maps or reading books! The number of dummy drawers is quite frustrating although there is plenty of wardrobe space- do not break nails on wardrobe doors- get someone with greater finger strength to open them! It could be so easier on the eye if the William Morris wallpaper in some corridors had been more widely used? Strengths however greatly exceed weaknesses and service, cleanliness, food standards, facilities and location immensely make up for any minor faults. We had not intended to mark the finish of our stay, but found ourselves offered a Saturday evening of free food, drinks and tasteful music at the hotels expense! As you know, the Irish need no second invitation to party!

The Slieve Donard achieves a very high standard of service, accommodations, and cuisine. Hte building and overall property is impeccable. The staff is extremely friendly and professional, tending to your every need. The breakfast buffet cannot be missed. If you are golfing at RCD, the course is a stones throw away. The town is lovely and full of friendly people and warm pubs.

Lovely surroundings; great staff. Enormous room, and furnished to high-level; food and service were all excellent. The views are spectacular and well worth a walk to work-up a heathy appetite and then relax in the heavenly spa.

My husband, son and I stayed for 2 nights recently and had the most lovely, relaxing stay. The room was very spacious, the beds very comfortable, toiletries were provided in the bathroom, we were also able to request a child's robe and slippers for my son which he was delighted about. We used the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and I had a facial in the spa by Megan which was the most relaxing treatment I've had in a long time, the facilities were all very clean and we liked the fact that children had a long period of time where they were allowed in the pool. We used the bar area in the evening, and ate breakfast in the hotel in the morning - the breakfast was very impressive, the selection of food available was extensive, food was fresh and hot. The hotel is close to some brilliant local restaurants, so we ate in them in the evening. Overall a very enjoyable stay, and I hope we'll be returning for a stay again in the near future.

Definitely expensive, but with live piano and posh surroundings, it’s really nice if you are staying at the hotel. They have 2 local gins here, Jawbox and Shortcross which are excellent.Bar is famous for Charlie Chaplan’s visit ages ago.
