Stayed here for one night while I was attending a conference in a nearby hotel. Staff were helpful and room was spacious. Nothing was too much trouble and they even allowed me to email and print my itinerary items on their reception computer

Booked room at start of year for gig /weekend stay. Booked time off work, dog sitter etc Got cancellation email month before date with no explanation. Emailed asking for explanation and got simple response stating they were undergoing renovations. When u complained I got another stating the venue was closed. I now can't get replacement accommodation in the area - so can't attend the gig, which was a Christmas present to my wife. I appreciate work needs to be done from time to time. However this must have been known ahead of time but I was not told until a month before the date has left me raging. Not happy with the poor service and dismal responses.

Cancelled our booking with less than 24 hours notice. Poor.

We stayed at the Donard for 1 night as we were attending a gig in the Town & it was in a good location for us. The staff were very welcoming & did explain that the hotel is currently getting a renovation so the Restaurant would not be available for breakfast. They did give us a 10% discount card for the Shimna Cafe across the street. The rooms are a good size with comfy bed & pillows & a nice sized bathroom with the complimentary toiletries.

Hotel is grand, bit like a hostel.. but that isn’t the issue. I’ve been trying to contact the hotel for a week about lost property- the phone rings off the hook and they don’t respond to any emails.

We stayed in The Donard in August and to say it was like Faulty towers is an understatement. The room we stayed in had a DIY job done on a plug, wires hanging from the ceiling. There was a screw missing from the ladder that my children used to get to a top bunk. There was broken tile in the bathroom and a shower door ready to fall of. I did ring the hotel to complain and I was told I would get a full refund. Its now November and I have made numerous calls to the hotel and no sign of my money back. I am very disappointed with the customer service.

My husband and l stayed in a big beautiful clean and bright room with fabulous views of the sea and the mountains, The bed was really comfortable and The Team were so friendly, helpful and professional, would definitely stay again as it great price too.

Out of date hotel. The room smelled terrible. The bathroom was like a dirty outdated flashback to the 80s with cracked tiles. The bath was.. I've no words. The carpet was ripped and i wouldnt walk on the carpet in my bare feet. Also they told us to go to the cafe across the road as they didn't serve breakfast although we payed a good price for the room. Never will I go there again.

Broken window handles, creaky floor boards, dust, dead flys in the light shade, place needs a major paint lift, got a wine cooler for a bucket of ice, worst fry in my life, awful effort, not worth £290

Don't get a room at the front. Broken radiator, heat on middle of summer. Needed windows open for sir, outside boy racers, fights, drunks and pub band. Never again. Nice people but terrible location. No parking.

I visited the slieve Donatd hotel for afternoon tea today. What a fantastic experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We had a beautiful selection of infused teas to choose from as well as the normal . Loved the butternut squash soup and beetroot and goats cheese tart to start. The sandwiches were fresh and a good range, the scones delicious and light and the pastries were a real treat . Truly loved every minute . It was a pleasure to taste food obviously made fresh in your kitchen and not bought in. Thank you . We will be back.

I booked this hotel for a nights break to celebrate our anniversary. The price was £165 for one night so I had high expectations for the standard of the room. The staff were very nice as we were greeted on arrival. However, once going upstairs we noticed the décor very outdated and badly needing a makeover. Room doors where old ply wood with corridor doors the old glass with wire mesh. Going into the room we again were disappointed. Paying £165 a night, sets a certain level of expectation for a level of luxury and attention to detail. The room was again old fashioned, the radiator knob was broken and wouldn’t turn on or off, the shower wouldn’t turn off and to our disappoint the ensuite was a disabled wet room. For an extra £70 we could have stayed in a 5 star luxury hotel a short distance away. This hotel was well over priced, badly in need of a makeover and I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking value for money or any level of luxury.

Great bar, great service all the staff from Managers to waiting staff. Lovely cocktails and draught beer. Pizza plus menu is fresh and modern but more importantly, delicious. The Donard is the best pub in Newcastle without a doubt.
