Odd experience. The place was open, looked super cool and had lots of positive reviews. So we walked in and asked for a table to be told they were closed. The only words with a blank stare were "we are closed". No explanation as to why they were closed, with an open front door. When we walked past about 2 hours laters, it was clear that a big party had started. Suggest that a) put a sign on the door saying "closed for private function" b) ask your staff to share that a private function is going on if someone comes in. As it was, the cold, blunt "sod off" attitude was a surprise. A marked contrast to a place up in the Sperrin's we had been into 2 days previously, who were also closed, in this case for a wake. Yet they explained the situation and then (in part perhaps given the cold weather outside) sat us down opposite the fire in the front room, brought out soup, chips, water and coffees and a conversation. The difference here is the kindness of people.

While the food was good and very good value the service was terrible. Despite the dining area being only 3/4 full staff were not aware. I had to go and find staff on two separate occasions. When we were eventually served the waiter was less than friendly. Left feeling we had inconvenienced the staff. Overall, very disappointing.

Went in on a Sunday with only 4 people in the place to be greeted with do we have a reservation, we said no. The man looked at us up and down then at his watch and didn’t reply for sometime then just nodded his head and walked away, he made us feel so unwelcome, we gathered our senses for a second and decided to just leave. We’ve never had such a bad reception in our lives. Save to say I’ll never be back!

My family and I had lunch in the bar on bank holiday Monday. As you would expect Newcastle was very busy as was this bar however the manager and serving staff let people know the possible waiting time and gave updates until our food was served. The bar itself was well stocked and cocktails are definitely on the menu with their own mixologist to provide recommendations. The food was warm, delicious and well presented. I had haddock and chips, my husband had a burger (it arrived with bacon cheese and 3 huge onion rings) and my son had beef stir-fry.The interior is very eclectic with lots of oldie worldie gadgets, posters and ornaments relating to Newcastle and Northern Ireland. We were seated beside the window and had a fantastic view of the sea and the busy main street - definitely the best position for watching the world go by.Our waitress was wonderful, friendly, professional and asked numerous times if there was anything else we needed.I would definitely recommend a visit - we will be heading back

Lovely inside, food was relatively good but unfortunately ruined by unfriendly staff. I don’t think one of them cracked a smile the whole time and we always had to call them over when we needed anything, nobody checked on us once. Underneath our table was also covered in food from the previous diners. Shame as the setting was very cosy with a sea view.
