“We recently popped in to the award winning Chipmongers in Portstewart, and had a terrific chippy tea with friends.

Chipmongers sources ingredients from local suppliers and has an ethos of “stripping it all back to a traditional Irish chipper with a modern twist.”

As well as great takeaway food, the restaurant area for sit-in diners has its own menu, and we loved the variety of dishes on offer.

All the food is freshly prepared, and we enjoyed gorgeous Fish Suppers with perfectly golden, crispy batter and hand peeled & cut chips, and a superb, seasonal special; a Seafood Sharing Platter which included fillet of cod, Korean prawns, salt & chilli cod cheeks, and a choice of chips and dips-more than enough for two to share.

Not only that, but "Phat Pizza", located next door, serves up authentic Neapolitan-style pizza crafted with hand made dough and cooked in a wood-fired oven, which can also be enjoyed in Chipmongers’ restaurant. The menu features a a variety of pizza to suit all tastes made from top-quality ingredients.

The restaurant is also BYOB, so we were able to enjoy a crisp, chilled white which went perfectly with the fresh seafood.

Many thanks to proprietor Gareth, and our server Rose, for making us so welcome on our return visit to Chipmongers: an establishment which is definitely a cut above the ubiquitous “chippy”.”
