Great location a very short walk from the centre of Alnwick. Room was nice with everything required for a comfortable stay. The B&B is attached to a great little pub which shows sports & serves food. Host really helped by ordering a taxi for me and then went above & beyond by offering to give me a lift to pick up my car in the morning having left it overnight at a wedding venue. Really good value too, would stay again!

We arrival at The Shepherds Rest shown to our room by a member of staff, just matter of fact, no conversation, didn’t ask how we were or about our journey or offer to help with bags etc. Bedroom very tired, creaky floor boards and beds, not very clean floor, there was a previous customers used tissue down the side of the bed, the beds had no headboards. The bedding and towels were changed during our stay. Bathroom very tired, plug didn’t fit in the sink and we had problems turning the light on and off. The over bath shower worked well and was hot. The rooms were cold, we asked several times about getting the heating turned on but the radiators didn’t warm up for long, the thermostat is in the bar, why should we have to keep on asking. We did try the food on our first night, we were given dried up chips and lasagna, no flavour, never again it was the worst meal we had anywhere during our week in Northumbria We had breakfast on our first morning, this was ok. We felt as though we were intruders, an inconvenience, there was no interest show in us at all during our stay The Shepherds Rest is a local drinkers pub not welcoming B&B.

Just been here for tea, absolutely shocking, menu very limited, chose homemade lasagne only because it said home made, big mistake, it was clearly made by a novice cook, no tomato, no onions and no flavour, just full fat mince a layer of pasta and cheddar cheese melted on top, vile. Husband chose chicken breast with mash, he had option of blue cheese sauce and peppercorn sauce but not being a sauce fan chose nothing, when it came it looked very dry so asked politely if he could have some gravy, we were sat in an area outside the kitchen and the door was open wide all the time we were there, we heard the waitress ask for gravy and the cook was clearly not happy with this small request. We could see everything going off in the kitchen and I must say they microwave was in full use, worst meal I’ve had in my life to be honest. Yes plates might be empty but only out of hunger, you’ll eat anything when your starving, we’d been driving round for 2 hours finding somewhere to eat and the microwave was in full use throughout the prep not only the gravy. I’ll stand my ground and say it was terrible, couldn’t wait to get out of the place .

Avoid at all costs. Very poor. Food poor quality and not cheap. heated up frozen lasagne with no sauce and therefore dry as dust. Fish with batter not fully cooked, peas cold. Only red wine available very tasteless. Don't really care when complaints are made.

Ordered burger and chips should be easy enough. Chips were nice though not many of them, side of coleslaw was really unpleasant - burger bun was lovely but burger itself was undercooked, had to leave a portion on my plate. Don't think I'll return for food

Stayed with Motorhome for one night, ground was very sloped, sheds for WC + Shower need do updating, all bins were full, just lacks attention to detail, not worth £29 which inc £7 for power.

Two of our party ordered chicken with mash and seasonal vegetables.... The chicken was dry, the mash was cold and the seasonal vegetables consisted of peas! For £14.95 one would expect the chef capable of producing a decent meal. Avoid here!

Had a good day albeit for a funeral...only minus staff shortage but otherwise superb

We stopped over in our campervan for the night. The locals were very friendly as were the staff. The food was reasonably priced and really nice. The facilities on site were good, toilet, shower and waste water disposal. Also great views and location is easy to find.I would definitely stay again and recommend.

Called when passing on a hot Sunday. We sat outside in the beer garden, which was very well maintained. Very polite bar staff on duty. The only drawback was the language constantly used by a group of well oiled punters. Otherwise a very nice public house. Recommended.

We booked a table, but arrived 30 minutes early due to finishing our walk in Craster earlier than expected. This didn't seem a problem and were seated straightaway with our drinks and food order taken in the next 5 minutes that followed. Two couples arrived after us, were seated and orders taken. Their food arrived around 15 minutes later, we thought this was a little strange considering the menu was the Sunday lunch menu so a roast dinner was the only option, which is something I wish I had been made aware of at the time of booking, anyway 40 minutes went by before we recieved our meal, the two couples having eaten and left by this time. It became very apparent during our wait that you were seen straight away if you were know to them as a regular. We were just about to give up and search for somewhere else when they brought the food out, by this point we were hungry and just wanted to eat something, I wish we hadnt bothered and just left, the vegetables weren't cooked, and looked like they been left out in the sun, they'd gone beyond dry, and looked rather sorry for themselves ....I think one was supposed to be cauliflower cheese, it was raw with a flour tasting white sauce poured over it, it was terrible, some of us received roast potatoes, others didn't, and the mashed swede had so much pepper in it, it burnt the back of your throat....I think that was the only seasoning used in that kitchen ?If you asked for anything, like another pot of tea, it was a further 15 minute wait.I should have stuck with my gut instinct and gone to the original restaurant I picked, but thought this would be the lovely pub atmosphere I was looking for. So very wrong. If you're looking for a lovely meal in a lovely setting, and would like to feel like a customer than an unknown hindrance, please save your hard earned money and go further into town, parking is free on a Sunday in town, and during the week just use your parking disc.
