Had to wait for at least an hour to receive food and it was the worst experience of eating out .And the waiter spilt soup over my daughters coat. Absolutely

Really cozy. The owner was really friendly and the service was excellent. The food and coffee was great too!

Surprisingly authentic Italian lunch - the seafood pasta was excellent and the service very friendly. Food was freshly cooked and could have come from a cafe in Italy.

We stopped for lunch and had a table in the courtyard, from the moment we arrived the staff Seemed stressed and irritated by new tables arriving. Ordering took a long time, our waiter was completely miserable! Food was ok, not great I wish we had chosen to eat elsewhere. It’s very unprofessional when you can here staff being shouted at, whilst eating your lunch! I would not return.

Beautiful setting in lovely courtyard. Coffee and food are excellent. Service is poor usually very slow, even when the place is quiet. Younger staff seem to be shouted at regularly. Older staff seem to be permanently stressed, get orders wrong and blame the customer. But as I say, food is good and the setting is lovely.

Lovely food but service is excruciatingly slow. Fine if you've got 1 hour for a sandwich and coffee and don't mind the staff ignoring you most of time!

Seriously nice coffee. Espresso is spot on, tastes like a rost that's on the darker side of medium, probably a 1:1.25 brew ratio. I normally order a cappuccino, nicely balanced and the milk is streached to perfection. Food is glorious too. Pricy but glorious. If you want cheap eats, go to spoons. If you're after an enjoyable lunch, order some pasta. Beautiful!

I almost hate to write a review of Salute. Why tell the world of your (new) secret favourite place and encourage the crowds? My wife and I stumbled across Salute today after on other days trying (once only!) several easier to find Hexham restaurants at lunch time. To cut to the chase the food here was sublime. We each ordered one of the chef's special pasta offerings and were rewarded with dishes so visually pleasing, so sublimely flavourful, so (I assume) authentic that we really can not put our delight at our lunch into words. Yes, as other reviews have pointed out, the service was glacial. To meet normal expectations there clearly needed to be additional staff. But, also clearly, this is a cafe run by people who love their food while managing things the way that suits them. They clearly are not in a hurry! If you want to lunch and be in and out in half an hour then go elsewhere. If you want to sit in a lovely sunny courtyard and savour a dining experience that doesn't insist on anything happening right now, then you can not possibly do better than Salute. I must admit to being perplexed by the number of negative reviews here. In some cases I can see Brit expectations not being met by Sardinian delivery. But tasteless food? I can't believe it. I am reminded of several past experiences in small French cafes of watching British tourists becoming nearly apoplectic because things just weren't done the way they are in England. That's true of Salute. Today I imagined myself somewhere in southern Italy without a care in the world.

Great alfresco courtyard location for this lovely Sardinian cafe/restaurant.Really tasty pastadishes and good Italian red wine. Friendly yet professional service too.Unfortunately not open evenings.

Terrible food which we couldn't eat, complete waste of money. Worse than a supermarket ready meal. Poor customer service, no menu on table, was told to look at menu stuck to window to select meal. Hard bits in one meal and sauce tasted awful. Other meal just pasta no meat in it, pasta was soggy and hard at same time and awful tasting sauce. I only had one mouthful and couldn't eat meal as it was just awful and inedible. Told chef it wasn't nice, he could see from the untouched meals and just offered more sauce. Still charged us full price, no offer of a discount for the inedible meals. In fact overcharged for somethng on receipt called miscellaneous absolutely no idea what the miscellanous was for. Was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Drinks expensive for what we got. Most definitely will never go back, wished we'd gone across the road to the other restaurant, will check reviews next time.

This was my first visit to Salute in Hexham. Salute is situated in a stunning courtyard where there is both inside and outside seating ( great if you have your four legged friend with you). I first would like to congratulate staff for their friendly and warm welcome. However, we personally found the service from ordering to settling our bill extremely slow. It would appear the owner is trying to cook and at the same time prepare bills and take payments. Surely taking payment could be passed to a member of staff which would then speed up the time taken to prepare and serve food orders. On the subject of the food being served, we found it only to be acceptable but a little overpriced, for example £2.95p for a can of sparkling pop taken from a Multi Pack. I am somewhat surprised by the number of good reviews perhaps we choose the wrong day to visit.

I chanced on this lovely restaurant on a visit to Hexham today and had lunch in the charming courtyard. Food, friendly service, cost and atmosphere were great. There were lots of lovely choices on the menu - I went for a Foccacia Panini with grilled vegetables and goats cheese and a cheeky lunchtime red wine. This welcoming little restaurant will be my "go-to" for future visits to the town

A little gem. Small trattoria with a genuine Italian feel. Friendly, enthusiastic staff, excellent menu with a Sardinian bias. Freshly-prepared pasta, so don't expect fast food, but well worth the wait. Spaghetti with steak, Sardinian seafood pasta and gnocchi were all very good; cannoli and espresso to finish. Very good value and extremely tasty. Highly recommended.

Had a very nice meal here, visited in the past a good while ago and decided to go back whilst in the area. Lasagne was really tasty, the garlic bread was nice but for my taste needed more garlic. It would have been if the lasagne had come with salad and garlic bread as opposed to either. A small side salad would have been much appreciated, we didn’t want to have to choose between that and the bread. The staff were very professional and friendly, especially the young woman who served us. We would return, we enjoyed our meal but the main menu could have been better, can you offer dishes without so much chilli, some people have a problem digesting it.Parking: No parking outside, car park nearby in Waitrose is prob the best option. You will need a disc though. You can get these from some local shops.
