Tesco Cafe
Tynedale Retail park, Alemouth Rd, HexhamA lovely convenient cafe for lunch, gluten free options limited, which is ashame, although the baked potato is good. Staff friendly & efficient & the cafe is clean & tidy!Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options limited, tesco could make the effort for people with dietary requirements because of health issues, unlike wasting their time on fad food/diets for Vegetarians, which is more often a choice issue. Come on tesco keep up to date & try to treat everyone fairly!Parking: Excellent although not enough disabled spaces.Wheelchair accessibility: Good.

Subway
Bridge End, Hexham Services, Off Rotary Way, HexhamLast Saturday I went into subway to grab a quick bite for lunch with my family. We were met by quick service and friendly staff. One staff member who stood out the most was a girl who’s name I believe was Kayshia. She was polite and made great conversation and on top of that had our order done quickly. I can only describe her as the best subway sandwich artist. Five stars from me.

The Rat Inn
Anick, HexhamCalled in on the off chance of a table for lunch. Usually busy if you don't book ahead. We weren't disappointed. Decided on the mains as Beetroot and butternut chilli for me and my wife had the Portobello mushroom burger. Both were delicious washed down with an excellently kept pint of Timothy Taylor's and a glass of Pinot Grigio. For dessert I had the marmalade sponge which was light and tasty. Altogether a great lunchtime trip.

Pizza Pizza
18 Priestpopple, HexhamI ordered food (special kebab and salad) and waited almost 2 hours for it to arrive. There was plenty of food for 12 gbp that I have paid, but the taste - it didn’t really have any taste. It was more to make stomach full, and there were no other places to order from in the area.

She was the only member of the staff, the other had phoned in sick.Yet, there was no queue, inspired of a good turnover of customers, the place was clean, and she kept the tables clear as people left. She should get a bonus.

Phoenix Club & Bar
Priestpopple, HexhamOutstanding friendly vibrations on New Year's Eve. I absolutely rarely hit Hexham, never mind a 'klerb'. Of course, I rocked up after beers and ace grub with my colleagues. Post midnight too. No worries upon entry and no worries indoors either. I was even motivated enough, but thankfully withheld from busting out the moves on the floor. I did feel I was some one thousand years older than the average punter here, not that the scene was dicey in a questionable way. This may well tick your box for a top dancefloor situation to end your night.

Golden Rice
44 Priestpopple, HexhamLarge selection of dishes. Lady on counter was extremely welcoming and friendly. I like this a lot. Food came out within 5 mins of ordering. All well wrapped. I was solo so had chow mien and peking chicken dishes (with boiled rice). Was good. Noodle well cooked. Peking chicken nice and tangy with a little kick. I enjoyed a lot. I read other reviews and was surprised by the negative comments. My experience was good. I would go back again. Only minor negative is that the peking dish only filled half the pot. If sharing the dish than you may feel a little short changed. For me no issue. Prices were fair. Decent quality

The Pheasant Inn
Shilling Pot, Stannersburn, HexhamAte here 4 nights ago. The lamb dish and the accompanying red wine jus was one of the best dine out experiences I’ve had. The cooking was just exquisite. The dessert was a 10/10 as well.Pity the front of house staff refused our request of having the fire on in our dining area. Said there was already one on next door, but we weren’t sitting next door, were we. It was a cold night and the hospitality fell a little short for me.

The ladies who run it are really lovely and show what can happen when you turn your life around and follow in the footsteps of Jesus. It can be busy because it is popular and good value for money and sometimes you can only sit outside but it's always worth it. Dogs welcome outside only.

The Tannery
Gilesgate, HexhamThe menu we had for lunch was fairly basic and we went for the burgers. The vegetarian burger was one of the best I've had - grilled peppers and halloumi with the perfect amount of ancillary ingredients, it was really tasty. The side salad was more than just lettuce, coleslaw was good and the chips were good too (just too many of them). The onion rings were super crispy and tasty but too rich and oily to manage all 4.The reason I'd not give 5* for the food was because my husband's cheese and bacon burger was kind of dry and very salty. I tried it and the veggie burger is way better even if you eat meat. The pub interior is quite nice but also a bit tatty around the edges which is a shame as exposed foam on the seats brings the tone down a lot.

The Twice Brewed Inn
Bardon Mill, HexhamIconic isolated Inn just off Hadrians Wall. Serve a good selection of home brewed ales that are well kept. Food was nice, nothing outstanding but did the job after a hard day's walking. Nice atmosphere in the bar, very relaxing and warm. Just make sure that you bring a torch if stopping at the nearby youth hostel as it gets very dark on the walk back.
