A very cozy British pub offering fine traditional ales and excellent food. Service was excellent, despite the naughty Christmas elf trying to cause havoc! ?‍??

Delicious lunch on a cold Tuesday in December in front of a roaring log fire!

We've just returned from a lovely long weekend at The Highway Inn. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome, service was friendly and efficient. We at in the bar on a couple of occasions, and the food was better than expected. The chef certainly knows what they're doing. The breakfast is "continental" in name only, there's plenty on offer to fill the hungriest tummy, and if you are pushing the boat out there's cooked options available for a reasonable price.

Stopped in for lunch and liked it so much we came back two weeks later and had the same again. Warm fire, good food, thoughtful friendly staff

We had an evening meal but not an overnight stay.Food excellent and service exceptional. We were even made aware of the optional service charge and told that it was optional…. So many places these days with mediocre or no service levels just add that charge as standard , so this was a very pleasant change. They deserved every penny of their service charge. Would most certainly return.Food & drinks: Great good.

Need to go back after reading the glowing reports. I have to be honest 5pm for Sunday lunch is a few hours too late. Everything eaten felt like it had been warmed up, the roast potatoes were like little rocks.... Service was good, and good atmosphere...but that's it.

I stayed here the night before my wedding and had a brilliant experience. Ten of us had a lovely meal the night before, the food was excellent (great selection, tasted brilliant and the service was lovely- greatly appreciated the prosecco on the house!). The Burford room is so spacious, lovely views down the High St. and had lovely interior design. The communication from staff before, during and after the stay was brilliant. I would 100% recommend staying and eating here. Thank you all.

A beautiful old building (as most in this town). As a pub it’s not at all bad, as a hotel it leaves a lot to be desired. Our room (Signet) was damp and noisy - with the constant drone of either a large extractor fan or washing machine downstairs more akin to a New York apartment than a quiet country pub. Bed was small (fair enough it’s a small room) but not particularly comfortable. The main problem was the attitude of the staff. I was told at check in breakfast finished at 10. When I arrived downstairs at 0950 I was told it finished at 0930.While I was staying I smashed my head badly on a very low door frame. These are normal in such old buildings in England. It was my fault of course, and it is marked with a very small label “Mind your head” but it was so hard a knock I ended up on the floor. That day I was headed to a wedding but had to leave due to the earlier knock as I wasn’t 100%When the next morning I was asked for details so they could complete the accident book, when I suggested that it needs a strip of yellow warning tape so it’s more noticeable her (Rebecca Riley the managers) response was an irritated and patronising “It does have a label and that is all that is required by law”.When I pointed out that while that may be the case I would expect that she might be more focused on firstly my welfare and secondly that of her future guests rather than simply what the most basic requirements by law are, she looked at me with disdain.Won’t be staying again, not because of low doorframes but because a general lack of attention to detail and this attitude which was entirely unnecessary. It was the same about the breakfast: I explained I was told by the staff the day before it was 10, she said “Well it’s here on the clipboard the booking times”. I said I believed her but the point was it was not what I was told. This is not what a great customer experience looks like.Good points were that food was OK, it’s a great location and the room had an excellent power shower and good water temperatures.I want to add that when one of the Cleaners heard/saw the accident happen, she was most sympathetic and asked repeatedly if she could do anything - a better example of customer care than her boss.

I didn't stay at the hotel, but I wanted to put some money behind the bar for a friend of mine's birthday. Unfortunately, I was told quite clearly that this was not possible and all the systems would not allowed It So disappointing when it was my friends birthday and I wasn't able to make this present over the telephone for a special moment for him. Great shame when systems run businesses not flexible to allow a simple payment over the telephone, surely I need to look at this and make it user-friendly . I am sure the hotel is very good, good rooms and good food as per the TripAdvisor but this is something that should be sorted out.
