Lovely pub just off the high street, provides a great alternative spot for an evening pint when you don't want to drink 'in town'.

Nice friendly pub with many locals

Beautiful old pub, lots of quirky features and decorations. The pub is a stones throw from the river and has a lovely walled garden in the rear. Great selection of local beers and wines, didn't eat but the food that was being served looked and smelt amazing. The landlord and lady were very friendly and accommodating.Would thoroughly recommend for a drink or a bite to eat if in the area

Old traditional pub. Great atmosphere and food. When in Henley cannot miss.

Beautiful pub, amazing staff. Despite it being slightly busy, we were seated and served food within 20 minutes. Will definitely visit again and am very happy with the new management.

Arrived with my elderly mother in a wheelchair was helped right from the carpark to the table as it’s an old building with steps but the staff ensured the mobile ramp was available and could not have done more to accommodate my family. Been to the anchor several times but the service has greatly improved. Lovely staff even lovelier food they even had colouring for the children. Didn’t get chance to play darts but that is a great addition to the pub a real local friendly place with a great garden. Really enjoyed our time. Thank you to everyone

“Food will be 20 minutes, there are only 3 tables in front of you’ was the promise when we ordered. After 45 mins we were told it was busy due to walk ins, after an hour a free bottle of wine, after 90 mins we said we must leave, after 1 50 mins our simple food arrived. Mine turned out to be cold ham and 3 eggs as no gf option was available apparently, a salad, fish from a packed with chips and a steak, 1 hour 50 mins. We counted 12 people on the 3 tables ahead of us! What a disaster, will never go there again. Honesty when we ordered would have helped but that was too much to hope for. We are waiting feedback from Breakspear brewery!

We were promised food in 20 mins! It took 1 hr 50 mins, there were 3 tables ahead of us (parties of 2/4/6) why does such simple food take that long? Ham and eggs ( no gf option, so no chips) salad, fish and chips out of a packet and a steak!!!Thank you fir your response but I need to point out that the I have checked the time of payment and it was 1 hr 50 mins and the ‘booked table’ were walk ins ( your staff told us that and one of them was in front of us at the bar when she asked if you had a free table) lying does not excuse poor serviceDietary restrictions: As I said almost nothing gf so had eggs and cold ham, apparently no rice or bread! Not even a bit of salad

What a truly dreadful experience. Some friends and I were taking part in the Henley ale trail as we do every year. This year we started at The Anchor. Well never again, we arrived at lunch and thought a good lunch to set us up for the afternoon would be a great idea. The pub was a little busy but we looked at the menu and decided to order some food. We asked how long the wait would be, we were told about half an hour. Not too bad for a Saturday lunch but how wrong we were. It took the kitchen 2 hours to produce 2 garlic bread starters. Wow did you actually forage for the garlic in a near by woodland? How can it take that long to toast some garlic bread? The dish itself was ok nothing special just standard garlic bread so what took you so long? The mains arrived then another 20 minutes after this so at this point 2 hours 20 minutes. Then they forget cutlery, not only is the wait painful you also fail to supply the tools needed to eat. Some serious questions should be asked if this establishment wants to continue to serve food or not. I would suggest and honest conversation between chef and owner/landlord. The table next to us complains and get a free bottle of wine. When the waitress comes to us to apologise we get offered a free shot of Cinzano. What a great apology, hear have a small amount of liquid we cannot sell. To think this was all they needed to do is beyond belief what world do they live in. In a town such as Henley with it’s high standards it is only a matter of time before this pub is no more or under new management that cares about a great dining experience. The real cherry on the top of the other cherry of terrible experience is that the waitress told us it’s busy as people have come in and all they wanted was food and drink. Well I’m flabbergasted that she was under any other illusion that something different happens in a pub where you serve food and drink. To summarise I would avoid this pub for food as the service is poor along with the food and is somewhat below average for what else is available in the town. Should it not be for the ale trail I can say with confidence I would not return.

No waiting for a pint, quick service and a decent pint of ale or lager... Whatever takes your fancy. Friendly bar staff... All good ?

What a little gem!!! The welcome was amazing when we walked in the door ! Even the patrons are lovely! Fantastic Sunday roast, comfy little nooks, huge room leading onto the garden I’d imaging great for parties. Definitely going back! New landlords Theresa and Wes are fantastic! Theresa gave us loads of tips about the area and Wes makes the best cauliflower cheese!!

My wife and I were visiting Henley from Cheshire to support our son doing an Ultra Marathon. We were staying locally, so called in for some refreshments and I must say the welcome was extremely warm and friendly. The staff were great and couldn’t do enough for us. They were very engaging and chatty asking about our weekend. The locals were equally as friendly. We would definitely call again next time and stay a little longer ?

Drinks nice, service great, but felt shabby, untidy and dirty compared to old owners
