Great food, great service. We sat in the garden and ordered asparagus risotto and the fish and chips. Delicious. However, the best thing was… their Pimms!!!! Might have been the nicest Pimms I’ve ever had

Four of us had a pleasant evening meal there. Food was good, but the shock came with the bill. The bottle of still water cost £4.50, we opted for 'additional' veggies, as it wasn't clear the meal came with them, and they cost £9 extra, each, but the biggest shock was the shared platter of beef. This was £40, which we thought was steep enough, only to find out that it was £40 PER PERSON, when we paid. A birthday treat spoiled by what we, from Devon, thought was clearly fleecing tourists who they knew wouldn't return. And we won't!

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch, with all the family, 2 year old and baby in a buggy. They made the 2 year old food quickly, they brought extra Yorkshire for one of our group who was having pork and wanted a Yorkshire. Staff really friendly and helpful

Went with my daughter and husband to celebrate his birthday. Great food, lovely atmosphere and fabulous service! Fran was amazing! Entertaining, knowledgeable and makes a great calypso coffee with style! What an asset he is!

I came back to the village I grew up in with a friend. Was vv disappointed to find that no food was available as we hadn’t booked a table. It was late lunch time and not especially busy but no food at the Inn. Went elsewhere. Won’t be back. Plenty of fab pubs in the area.

This was our first visit to The Chequers Inn at Fingest and certainly won’t be our last. It had a lovely atmosphere with such friendly and welcoming staff. We chose the Sunday Roast and have to say it was one of the best we’ve ever had - the beef was so tender and the portions generous and full of flavour. We’ll definitely be going back and taking friends with us next time. Thanks to all the team at The Chequers Inn! A very well deserved 5*’s!

Sunday lunch - very decent food: skate wings (Sunday roasts also available). Nicely cooked and a good sized wing portion. A decent country pub & quite well done out (recent re-paint). Slightly let down by very bass-heavy music which didn't help conversation. Would be 5 ? without the music.

Took my Dad for his birthday as the pub is very local for him. Food is excellent and portion sizes are right to enjoy three courses but prices are quite high. The setting is lovely and the garden offers great views down the valley. Service was good but atmosphere was a bit lacking. Good vegetarian meals as well as local meat. Good sized car park although entrace/exit to the car park is quite tight, just after the pub if coming from Frieth/Lane End and just before the pub if coming from Skirmett/Turville.

The Chequers is situated in a lovely quiet country village in the Chilterns and provides a peaceful venue. The meal was excellent, tasty and filling. The staff were very pleasant and chatty, and even allowed us to have a birthday cake at the table (with a couple of slices to taste). We will definitely return.

My wife and I visited for lunch, Friday afternoon around 1.30pm. The restaurant area is large and there was only one other couple who left soon after we arrived. Place is really devoid of atmosphere. Decor is curious. Large stuffed swan takes pride of place in the restaurant, we thought it was gross. All the window cills are covered with empty green wine bottles, very odd. To be fair the food and service was good, just a shame we ate it in a mausoleum!

Good traditional fair for a Sunday lunch, not overcomplicated but tasty, best suited for a family and friend's type meal. The suggested wine was excellent. I bought the same wine on the internet. Parking is infinite - well, it's a very big field.Overall, it was a pleasant experience cheering up what was a rather cold and damp day.

We had the pleasure of dinning at the chequers last night. Couldn't fault it. The food was just perfect as was the service, not overly expensive either. I would highly recommend this establishment. Thank you for a lovely evening. Please stock up on the brandy ready for our next visit.

Visited for a Sunday Roast and was delighted. Roast beef cooked to perfection with excellent roast potatoes and my favourite - a delicious bowl of cauliflower cheese. Staff were all fantastic. Great job.

Have had the roast beef on a Sunday, amazing! Best roast in a pub, with crispy potatoes and amazing haggis starter the lovely desert. Great recommended bottle of red on table and good value. The owner Ross was a good host. Have also been back for a good beer and darts with a friend plus an awesome meal on Saturday, service and ambiance great. Thanks to the lovely manager Tatiana for her great service and putting up with our long afternoon of great food, wine and company. Will be back very soon
