I've had a problem with this pub. I telephoned on Friday, April 26 to enquire if they had a table for 2 for Sunday Lunch. A man answered saying "Jolly Boatman." I asked if they had a table for Sunday Lunch. "I'll just check". he said. "Yes, that's fine. You're booked in." But I haven't said what time, I said. "Oh, any old time," he said. Puzzled, I said 1pm okay. "Yes, that's fine you're all booked in," he said. However, when we arrived at 1pm on Sunday they had no record of the booking and were quite dismissive. "You've phoned the wrong pub. You've phoned the Boat instead, said the barman. He phoned the Boat but hadn't received any booking from me, which I was pretty certain about. The barman said they were fully booked and they couldn't fit us in. So we had to find another alternative. Luckily, we got a table at Sturdy's Castle. Checking my phone records when I got home I found that I had phoned the correct number at 12.27 on Friday the 26th. This incident wasn't the first at the Jolly Boatman as we had the same trouble two years ago. Luckily, that time they able to find us a table.

I booked a table for 18 for my daughter’s 40th. We had to change the time a few times and the venue was very accommodating. The service was great, the food equally good. All came out swiftly, no one left waiting. All served fresh and hot. Could not fault it in any way. Highly recommended

Really good food and service. We have been here twice in recent months and had excellent experiences both times. The service was quick, friendly and patient; the drinks arrived within a couple of minutes, and the food within about 15 minutes. Hot food, hot plates, very generous portions and reasonably priced. The onion rings and orange bread & butter pudding went down especially well. Bonus for location as the pub sits on the canal, so a walk along the tow-path to Thrupp is a good way to work up an appetite. Very muddy & puddles at the moment due to heavy rain. Highly recommend this pub for a nice family meal.

Went for Sunday lunch today, I had the carvery roast beef and speaking as a retired butcher it was the toughest meat I have ever eaten ,in addition the roast potatoes were pale and under cooked will not be returning.

We had a lovely lunch there last Saturday. They are motorhome friendly as well, though I advise you to ring ahead. Bus into Oxford 50 yards up the road. Highly recommended.Parking: Can accommodate motorhome but is first come first served on the parking.

We chose The Jolly Boatman for lunch last Sunday and we were delighted with our choice. We decided on the Sunday Roast and it was absolutely delicious. The beef was slightly pink making it lovely and juicy and the serving was very generous, the roast potatoes were golden brown and crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside, the selection of vegetables was great and to my absolute delight was there was not a pea in sight!! There were two different gravies and a cheese sauce for the cauliflower and broccoli if desired. The pub was busy but the service from the delightful cheerful, smiling Traci put the bow on show to what was a thoroughly enjoyable yumcious lunch. Thank you Traci.Parking: Easy private parking alongside the canal

We decided to have Sunday lunch at this pub last Sunday and what an excellent choice this was. Despite taking the early slot 12h00 the pub was very busy. We were shown to out table and settled for the Sunday roast. It was absolutely delicious. The beef was slightly pink which made it juicy and the serving was very generous, the roast potatoes were scrumptious, lovely golden brown and crunchy outside and soft and fluffy inside. The selection of vegetables was great and there were several different gravies and a cheese sauce. Outstanding service from the delightful, cheerful, smiling Traci put the bow on the show to a yumcious lunch. Thank you Traci.
