I booked for three people. We arrived and were shown to our table. We had walked there through the muddy fields and it was very cold and windy. The drinks menu contained a festive season insert advertising mulled wine. I asked if this was available and the waitress snapped at me “no that should not be in there”. I then asked for mineral water only. The food was poor: pizza crust like cardboard, pasta with lots of water at the bottom of the bowl. The waitress told us twice there were no fresh chilli nor chilli flakes available for the pizza even though there were chilli flakes in the pasta. Then when asked for the dessert menu as she was passing she snapped very insolently at my wife. So we decided to leave. Not a good experience.

We had a lovely lunch here where Dan (a lovely young man) was a real credit to the team - if he didn’t know the answer he soon found out and then made sure that Alice his manager jumped in to take care of my wife’s food intolerances. The food was excellent, the ambience just right and the service exceptional. Thank you for making our day such a special one. Jules, Sandra, Owen and Victoria.

A Great Place in a perfect setting - clearly a very popular location - on the bank of the river Thames - it must be lovely in the summer. We had chosen it from the internet, as a good location, equidistant from our home in Cambridgeshire and our two sons and their ladies. Basically - it was quite good - there were all the ingredients for 'wonderful', but it was 'quite good' - hence the time taken to feed back. We six had not met up before - our sons having new partners. We were just getting first drinks and introductions, when the barman asked us to move away from the bar so that he could serve another customer. The bar is huge - and we were the only people in it with about 15 metres of completely empty bar, so we were a bit miffed to be asked to move - just so that the barman didn't have to. We didn't want to make a fuss when just meeting new people for the first time - but if it were to happen again, I would take the fellow to task. We were then taken to our table - and were a bit crestfallen to find a table for 4, with a different sizedtable for 2 put nest to it - on an uneven floor in what appeared to be a doorway to another room. We asked for - and were given another table, but once again - it didn't get proceedings off to a great start. That's all - the service was good once it got going - the food was pretty good. Overall, there is an air about the general staff that suggests they don't have to try too hard - and that the customers can sometimes be a minor annoyance

We visited for lunch on Friday,a group of six friends ready for a relaxed lunch and a long awaited catch up. Everything about the afternoon was perfect, we were taken to our table and our server was Jake who gave us time to settle before taking our drinks order. Our drinks were brought to the table, Jake could see that we were catching up so gave us time before taking our food orders. The food was excellent and well presented. We will certainly be going back to the Trout Inn it was a real treat.

Open terraces, restaurant and bar eating areas. Cosy tucked away areas. Set beside a flowing river. Weir, car parking, disabled spaces. A few minutes drive from Oxford city. Frequent buses. One hundred acre meadow, beside the river. A lake, canals, ruins and locks. Horses, cows, wildlife. This Inn, is situated in the truly beautiful area of Wolvercote. Stunning in the Summer and warmer weather and cosy in the winter. The bar service can be slow at busy times and get congested, due to tables and chairs being close to the bar. Beautiful decor...

Two of the things we ordered had run out. when we did order, there were several things missing or wrong. The fish and chips batter had garlic in it spoiled the whole dish). The cheese burger came bloody.

Good food and beer but let down by slow service and poor lighting. If I'd have known in advance I'd have taken a head torch. We did ask for the lighting to be turned up but it didn't happen.

Last minute decision as passing nearby. Online booking was simple and quick, fantastic table in the restaurant, great food and accommodated our random order without question. The server was Zac who was first rate, prompt, efficient and great to chat with.

I went with my family and we had a lovely time at The Trout. Nell was our server and she was great. Good food and views, would come again.

Disappointed this time round after many great times before. I came with my family on Sunday and sat in the bar area, my husband went to order 3 roast dinners and by the time he had sat down the food had arrived - in no less than 2 minutes. Unfortunately all 3 meals were luke warm which indicated they had been sat already made up which would result in the temperature. We ordered 2 sides also which were also cold on arrival so I was a little disappointed as didn’t feel like the food was as fresh. We were with our toddler so we just ate it as overall the taste of the food was great just cold unfortunately.

The food was very flavorful although the tables were very wobbly and moveable and very dark thank you very much but please include crackers on christmas dinners.

Visited for an early Christmas celebration with friends. Nell was an amazing waitress: took care of us so nicely and was really efficient. Will definitely be back in the new year!

Stayed in Oxford for a couple of days and found this lovely place, it's right on the river Thames. We were there in the evening, and the food , service and surroundings were all excellent. I would love to return in the summer to see what it's like outside then!
