Very disappointed. Over priced for the quantity. Believe you me, I’m not greedy but the portion sizes for the main were the size of starters. The Harissa aubergine was ridiculously small (and cold) Advertised as aubergine with butternut squash… 4 cubes of butternut squash 1cmx1cm. Half a tiny aubergine, which would fit in the palm of my hand. The dish was bulked out with a separate bowl of fine beans. It was very tasty but I was still hungry after. A side portion of fries had to be ordered - which sadly tasted like ‘fairground doughnuts’ evident of being fried in very old fat!The gnocchi - well that was a bowl of mushrooms and 7 pieces of gnocchi. The medium steak was medium -rare and plate of blood.I question whether the small portions were to then encourage a dessert- but £9 for crumble- no thanks!Won’t be back or recommending

Our families of 8 came for Christmas lunch. We all had a terrible experience the food was very poor, dry potatoes, hard vegetables, sauces added all over the meal. Where were the dishes to add your own. Note not everyone likes cranberries or bread sauce. And an awful palette cleanser. We would normally eat and celebrate at home, this was our first experience. My 91 yr old mother in law seriously needs to teach you how. There was a 2 hour wait between courses. I’d expect this experience from a Toby carvery!A waste of money!!Totally embarrassing when my father in law was taking us out!!

Been to the BH a few times, but a really disappointing meal last night. Three sirloin steaks all really sinewy and odd tasting. Someone suggested it was because the grills needed cleaning. Food also took over 45 minutes to arrive from ordering. Don’t think I’ll be going back.

Really disappointed by todays visit. We dropped in for breakfast but also to book a table for NYE as had tried calling a few times, but no answer. We arrived and we were firstly ignored by a member of staff who walked straight by us and didn't acknowledge us, when he came back he asked the girl behind the bar to see to us.We were seated and it took about 15mins for our order to be taken (it was quiet). The breakfast took about 25mins to be brought out to us. Another table were seated next to us and also commented on the slow service.Dont get me wrong, the breakfast was nice and tasty. When we asked for the bill, i asked if we could book a table for NYE, explaining it is our ritual to come and i had tried calling a few times. The waitress said she would have to get her manager to call me so i left my mobile number..... guess what, no call! Really disappointed, we visit on a regular basis but we sadly wont be back.

We were made very welcome and the staff were attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious and my friends thoroughly enjoyed their mussels and squid dishes. I had the pie with a veg and mash potato. Again it was delicious but served in 3 different dishes on a wooden platter. I found it very difficult to eat as I couldn't get a bit of everything on my fork. Perhaps I should have asked for a plate and then I could have tipped everything onto it. I will know next time. The crème brullee was silky smooth and most enjoyable.

Went in the summer for a special occasion and the food was stunning, the service very attentive and friendly, plus the best bloody mary I've ever had, hats off to the bar staff. Regularly visit for breakfasts too which are exceptional.

I had a Sunday lunch with my friend. We were in doubts if to go inside, because the pub looked a little bit ....from outside. We were very hungry, so let s give a try ....We didn't have reservation, but the man from reception did all his best to find a small table for two. We had a Sunday roast beef and chicken, plus a maple ham, confit chicken and apricot terrine and a cheese souffle. Dessert: Madagascar vanilla creme Brule and pistachio souffle. For the Chef: 10++++.Everything was Perfect.A big surprise Black Horse from Thame. The quality of food and its presentation were absolutely fantastic. Service, excellent, as well.Highly recommended if you want to eat a beautiful food in a very friendly atmosphere. Take care, portions are huge! ??

Came to eat today had heard such great things about the food but my meal was terrible so disappointed! The cheese soufflé was amazing but main course of celeriac was shockingly bad, cold bland and really hard to cut into the cabbage was so cold as well!! Some of the cream brûlée on our table was very burnt on top & sticky toffee pud very average. However we had good service but in these days of expensive eating out my meal was definitely not worth the money paid wouldn’t come back 4 food again but lovely bar area

Visited recently for a meal with friends. The food really is rather excellent (especially the souffles), and whilst each individual dish isn't the cheapest ever they have some excellent 2 and 3 course deals. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy sunday so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Two main issues, the carpark is tiny so it would be useful if the website gave more warning of this and advised where else in town you park, and the somewhat precipitous steps (albeit with warning) in to the bathrooms. Otherwise a lovely pub and place to eat

What a jewel of a restaurant! The menu catered for my vegan diet and my partners love of sea food, with all dishes presented perfectly and tasting delicious. The service team were so friendly and warm. A true 5* experience, will definitely be re-booking.

Always excellent food and service. Staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Food is very good quality and nicely presented. The soufflés are a must (both cheese and pistachio). I had the smoked pork recently, which was delicious. Will be going back soon!

Absolutely phenomenal food, great service from polite and knowledgeable waitress. Chorizo Ketchup with the burger was amazing. The BEST proper liqueur coffee I’ve had since visiting the Jamesons factory in Ireland. Wish I lived closer so I could come here all the time!

This was our first visit to the Black Horse and we were very surprised, you enter through the front entrance and you are meet with a lovely bar area and then you are shown Toby our table. This can be either in the indoor seated restaurant or on a lovely day like in out visit, outside in the garden. We both had the Sunday roast, this was the best roast we have ever had. The pudding were great as well. All the staff were great and service was excellent. The only problem, they don’t take cash payments which is such a shame.

Reasonably priced, nice courtyard setting, beer kept well, slightly intrusive neighbouring table. We had shin bone (very nice), lamb (slightly smaller portion than expected - but the mint peas were fantastic). Rapid and efficient service - would
