Being of mixed Chinese and Scottish heritage, adapting to life in Witney posed a challenge for me, especially in the quest for quality Chinese cuisine. Over my seven years in Oxfordshire, I've explored nearly every Chinese restaurant within a 25-mile radius, and outside of Oxford itself, unequivocally, The Water Margin stands out as the sole exceptional option. With authentic flavours and skilled chefs, it has become my go-to spot, making me feel a bit less homesick for the diverse offerings of London. Special kudos to Jenny, who welcomes guests with warmth, and her husband, a culinary magician in the kitchen! ??❤️

Had high hopes after reading the reviews but have come away really disappointed. The egg fried rice doesn't seem like it's been fried at all, it's just boiled rice with a tiny amount of egg and some spring onion.I had Shredded Chilli Beef and was expecting some heat, literally zero, no spice at all. It tasted like watered down sweet and sour. The dried up carrots weren't particularly appealing either. We also had the beancurd with mushrooms but there was literally no taste. There needs to be a serious increase in the spices used, everything is just so bland.Gave an extra star as the staff there are nice and friendly.

Takeway- food was ready in no time, which we spent chatting to the friendly staff. Good food, recommended.

WARNING! Stay away from this disgusting, filthy so-called restaurant. It is extremely dirty and unhygienic and we got food poisoning from this place with a terrible, revolting takeaway. I am reporting to food standards agency.

Had a takeaway and it was disappointing, beef and black bean was tasteless and fried rice I would swear was just boiled rice that had only looked at a wok for a second.

Have been a customer for many years ,always recommend it to our friend's good food & always efficient friendly service.
Amazing food as always, Jenny ( the owner ) is a great host. Unlike other Chinese restaurants you don't get bloated on the food. I had a potion of crispy duck pancakes for one. Best duck in the town. Plenty continents, spring, onion, cucumber, hoisin sauce. The duck was cook beautifully. Thank you

Excellent food, rarely we eat everything the same night but this was too good to leave. Thoroughly recommend The Water Margin. Really friendly ladies taking orders too, well done everyone ??

No longer a restaurant, open as a take away. Made a detour from to go there specially. Nope. Wanted a sat down meal. Disappointed as I loved the food when I lived locally.

Always a favourite, the food is great and the people are even better. Also, good with allergies and are very aware of all ingredients in each dishDietary restrictions: Excellent knowledge of menu and able to advise easily over the phone or in person. Adjustments on dishes may also be available when asked and can accommodate well.
