We were recommended to come here by another establishment in the town as sadly they weren't able to do food until later in the day.As soon as we entered the Wheatsheaf it felt welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and homemade. The service was very good and even though it got busier during our visit, noticed a calm and controlled way the staff were. Our thanks goes to Kerry who is the Landlady and will definitely return here when we come to Oakham.

This was the worst bagette I have ever had. Instead of calling it beef it should have gristle and horseradish. I was asked if I wanted extra sauce and told them no dressings but it came running in balsamic which was under the bagette as well. When I told them all I got was sorry you dont like it. Area we ate in also looked like it needed some soap and water and a duster very grotty. We will not be recommending the place.

A really friendly pub offering good food, always our first choice when visiting Oakham. The beer garden is a wonderful place to sit on a summers evening.

Idealic traditional pub, serving top tiered drinks. Absolutely loved the place & setting. Will definitely be returning.

Used to go this pub when Paul and Leslie ran it. Changed hands quite recently (probably lost track of time on that one! ) and it seems to have got a good vibe again and was quite busy. Enjoyed a pint in the garden, the staff were friendly and so could be back on as a pub of choice after all these years

We wish we had paid more attention to the negative reviews. The first interaction with staff was very rude and negative. Despite calling ahead of time we were made to feel unwelcome. Then when we told another staff member we wouldn't be eating due to rude staff and she was dismissive and walked away.Don't give these people your money as they clearly don't want it. There are much nicer places to go!

The review below is on the wrong pub. The Wheatsheaf doesn’t have any meals at that price and doesn’t serve bread with sides. Good value, good quality pub food always!

Fabulous surroundings in a traditional pub. Proper food made on the premises. First class service and very reasonably priced. Great dog friendly pub.

Lovely old traditional pub. Great welcome. Great food. Particularly recommend the gammon, egg and chips, the chicken and bacon pie and the sticky toffee pudding (which they will do with proper custard)

Very friendly old Pub. Food was great at a reasonable price. I had 3 cheese quiche with new potatoes and salad with a soft drink all for under a tenner. Lovely atmosphere and excellent service.

An excellent choice of ales, which were kept in good condition. We thought that barman needed to be a bit more cheerful in order to engage with customers. Otherwise, a good looking pub, both internally and externally, with a fine selection of real ales.

We phoned on the day to book a table, and glad we didn’t risk just walking in. All tables were occupied, but the staff didn’t rush anything, and gave individual attention to every table. We were made aware of dishes that had run out, and the lady who served us double checked with the chef when we asked about ingredients due to an allergy, even coming back and saying the different chef had made the chicken pie today, and not used any mustard. My husband and friend had the goats cheese salad, and I had the Mac and cheese. We all had ice cream after, and enjoyed all of our food. We felt it was great value for money coming in at £52 for 3 of us. We’d definitely recommend & return if in the area.
