Anstruther, a charming fishing village nestled in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland, is renowned for its delightful fish and chip shops. Among these, the Fish and Chips on the Waterfront stands out as a true gem.Locals and visitors alike visit here, drawn by its reputation for serving some of the finest Fish Suppers. The award-winning fish and chips here are a quintessential experience—a crispy, golden batter enveloping succulent fish, accompanied by perfectly cooked chips.Whether you choose to savour your meal by the picturesque harbour or enjoy it outside in their seating area with the salty sea breeze, Fish and Chips on the Waterfront ensures that every bite is a taste of coastal perfection. The batter is made fresh, hence there being a bit of a wait for your freshly cooked fish supper. They do both breaded and battered as well as the most insane onion rings. Adam certainly knows how to work with hot oil and has developed alabaster hands from working here. He instinctively knows when the fish is cooked to perfection. And its such fun to watch the peeley walley fish dripping with their secret batter and onion rings enter the hot oil and then burst forth with a beautiful golden crisp crust. You can almost hear it shouting ‘I’m ready! Eat me now!’As Adam fries the fish and onion rings, so Josh prepares those big fat chunky chips, pulls out a pickled egg and get the mushy peas and tartare sauce ready for our order.Depending on how you like your fish supper, there’s plenty of salt, sauce and sprayed vinegar to go around.Outside the chippie, they have several tables where you can sit to enjoy your supper looking out over the water of gently rocking moored boats and the waves making themselves known as they thunderously crash against the harbour walls on the far side.An epic setting no matter the weather! Some tables have blankets available to help keep you a wee bit warmer on those blustery days! The haddock is fresh from Peterhead and is served up 7 days a week from 11:30am. The batter is light and not greasy and overall well seasoned. The onion rings are superb with a crunch that would make any onion ring aficionado smile! The mushy peas are lush and add that extra layer of heartiness to the whole chip supper. For those seeking the ultimate fish supper, this iconic spot has earned the prestigious title of Scotland’s Best Fish Bar 2023—a testament to their commitment to quality and tradition. So, if you find yourself in Anstruther, don’t miss the chance to indulge in this classic Scottish delight at the Fish and Chips on the Waterfront. For more reviews visit www.tartanspoon.co.uk

Service was fantastic and have to mention exceptional from the young lad, Kyle I believe his name was. The food was second to none. Everything here was better than the two other chip shops I found in town.

We bought 3 fish and chips this afternoon, everybody is sick, sore stomach, my husband vomited. Fish was definitely wrong. Service is perfect.

I am also writing an opinion because my wife and I have no reason to lie and according to the owner it is not true that the fish made us sick. we went there with empty stomachs and only those in the family who ate fish are sick.five of us went there, three of us ate fish, those who ate fish are sick, our stomachs are cramping and I vomited.

Great service, really fast, freshly cooked food, very tasty. No need to queue at the better known chippy when this gem is just a few feet away!

Went all the way from Kirkcaldy, the food was dire, cooked for too long, the batter for brick hard and greasy and that was after waiting about 20

Very bad ...just came to the place with someone reference but worst decision ever...who gave you the award for the best fish and chips?? You should get the worst award ever...really pathetic...no fish inside only coating and very bad taste of oil...very bad ....have tried other places also in Anstruther, they are much much better than you...will not suggest your fish n chips to any one ...if you have got the award please return it honestly.

Lara Crosby

Lovely food, chips were amazing, much better than the other chippy and guy taking orders from people in the queue was impressive.

Ian Wright

Great fish and chips cooked fresh while you wait. Light batter and crispy chips - spot on.

Alexander Shubert

Very tasty fish and chips! The take-out process is though organised very poorly: multiple queues are all in the same place. The serving lady was trying to do a good job, but was clearly overwhelmed. it’s better to slow down, rather than rushing through multiple tasks.
