A nice restaurant serving grilled steaks and seafood. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good. There was unfortunately a birthday party with around 15 children on one side of the restaurant which made it less welcoming initially. We are giving 3 stars because the pricing was not as expected, we were surprised that the £70 beef fillet (300g) came with no sides or garnish and was just meat on a lonely white plate. With each side dish at £6, you're nearly at £90 for a single signature dish which is not rated, or Michelin starred. I would recommend offering a wholesome and comfortable experience as the secondary restaurant in the hotel as opposed to pushing their limits with that menu and children's birthday parties. Overall, the quality was good.Kid-friendliness: There was a kids birthday party ? so they are accustomed to families and kids.

Atmosphere and service was upto the usual fantastic standard. Food was a little under par though. Expected much better. I do love Gleneagles though and it won’t stop me returning.

We arrived in the hope we could get a table and at first we’re given a great spot at the bar. Great hospitality from our server who seemed knowledgable and passionate about his job. Rarely order steaks unless I know the quality of the chef, but menu was just too tempting with all the cuts available. All questions I had were put to the chef and explained back perfectly enough for us to order a bit of a banquette. Luck would have it we were able to move into the restaurant area and our night just got better. The Barolo (of good price) was beautiful as were the cocktails. Lamb cooked perfectly and the Wagyu sirloin.. oh the Sirloin was tremendous. Perfectly cooked and matched seamlessly with the marrow bone sauce. To really milk our experience we opted for desserts and I’m not a dessert guy. Her pudding was great (chocolate fondue) however as I’m not a fan of white chocolate I went for the Chocolate mousse which came in a chocolate crumb shell which I have to say was possibly the best dessert I’ve ever had. Truthfully it was that good. Only negative was, like many things, all good things must come to an end. Til next time! Bravo.

From entering the venue, being seated, ordering and receiving the tasty offerings, the service was exceptionally good. The food is rich and flavourful with careful attention to texture and presentation. Finally, a wonderful desert capped off the experience with a refreshing tang.

We went to The Birnam for lunch and the food, service and atmosphere were great! We ordered the caeser salad, beef short rib and the children’s chicken goujons with chips. Everything was really lovely.

Very cute lunch spot tucked in the Gleneagles hotel. For apps we split the buratta and it came out very cold and fresh. The Scottish salmon was perfectly cooked (beware no sides served with it, just some tomatoes). So it’s a bit on the pricier side. My friend ordered the Salmon Risotto. The risotto was perfectly cooked but I think it had a little too much herbs (thyme) taking away from the creaminess of the risotto and the flavor of the salmon.Overall the ambiance is very picture esque, but it is a but pricey. Service was great!

Loved Sunday Brunch at thr Birnam Brasserie! Fab food! Relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely book again!

The brunch was beautiful and the staff fabulous, however, to be charged a £40 service charge after paying £79 per person, £5 for still water and not being informed of this when you book was a bit of a disappointment … but then it’s Gleneagles.. you get what you pay for …

Found the food vey good as was the service, its casual dining at Gleneagles so it's not fine dining and shouldn't be assessed as such. We enjoyed it and will be back.

“Following Deseo wasn’t going to be easy and judging by this experience, The Birnham has some way to go. There’s no doubt that the change has been dramatic, but the place somehow isn’t quite so comfortable and the menu is not so child/teen friendly as before. No doubt this isn’t a problem for those visitors without the aforementioned, but that’s not really the point. Sitting on the terrace is where to be, inside being far too echoey, with lightweight furniture adding to the railway buffet ambience ( though Gleneagles was built by a railway company ! ) A pre-dinner drink at the bar was a pleasant experience. Straying off the set menu is a wallet-lightening error - won’t be doing that again - and the wine list is extortionate, even by Gleneagles standards. This is not the only area the new owners have jacked the prices up though. The food is pretty good, as it should be at these prices, but it isn’t outstanding. Service is at the usual cheery yet competent level. Our second planned visit in the week was cancelled in favour of the Strathern, which says it all, really. No doubt we will return next year in the hope that the rough edges have been removed” I wrote the above last year after our annual stay at Gleneagles. What has changed ? Well, it’s considerably more expensive, especially the wine-list which is now utterly preposterous - otherwise not much. The hotel has opted for the London-based “optional” 12.5% service charge, which attempts to shame customers into paying for service that should be a given at these prices. Customers should have the courage to say no to it, especially on the wine - it’s cheaper at Andrew Fairlie’s ! Food was pretty good without being particularly memorable . Deseo is now just a fond memory and the Birnham management needs to have a serious look at their policies before we all decamp to Auchterader.

With eye watering prices at the hotel this has to be absolutely spot on to make it worth it - which it was - wonderful service and delicious memorable pasta dishes . Wine seriously overpriced ….. but all in all a lovely place and great staff

Over the years we have visited and it has always been a 4 rating sadly the menu has gone downhill! We asked for a table to be reserved and they had already given it away and then tried to squash in the conservatory!! Now this is where it gets worse .. we started with a Mortadello nibble which was nice but honestly needed to be served warm and not straight out of the fridge, the starter was pastrami and San Daniella well this was dry and poorly presented served with a sauce which quite frankly tasted like a stokes brown sauce (apparently it was walnut puree) and burnt bread, then a baked carbonara followed pre made and warmed up certainly nothing special for the price and we had a pumpkin dish which was actually one of the worse dishes I have ever tasted and first time ever I have sent something back I then changed it for a saffron risotto which was ok again nothing special and not cooked fresh. Lisa was great however when she went on her break no one looked after us even the manager paying no attention and chatting to his colleague for an age! We did raise it with Simon and he gave us a drink in the bar but I would have expected a reduction in bill. Let's sum the meal up... as not even on par with a zizzi's!!!

Much better than it was on previous visits over the last couple of years. A bit empty even though staff at reception said the hotel was full. Have no issue with the food, or its cost given the quality of the surroundings and the service was good. However it was very obvious that most tables were not drinking wine by the bottle and some just drinking water or a small lager. Why are the wine prices so high? Cheapest French red was £140 a bottle. Madness. As a proportion to the food prices it didn’t make sense. Also why 125ml and not 175ml which is the standard nowadays for wine by the glass? The answer basically goes back to the silly bottle prices so 125ml of a very basic white is £15. Terrible. A couple of sips. And !! No Australian wine at all. Incredible. Overall we enjoyed it and eventually found a very basic white Rioja for £49 which was drinkable. Sommelier was a nice guy from Zimbabwe. Dormy hard to beat for almost any occasion. Jon and Fernandos in Auchterarder also good for food but totally soulless. Shame.

Had a great experience here after not so good last time. Great food, good selection of wines and fantastic service from our Spanish wait person, Dania - could not have been more helpful and not over attentive.
