First chippy from The Tawny, won't be the last! We tried fishcakes and chips, plus some courgette fritters and portobello mushrooms, served for dinner at home with some green salad leaves. Everything was so tasty.Hot (as it's all freshly made), batter is crispy and well seasoned, veggies substantial and so full of flavour. This is real food obviously made with care. And in a lovely clean shop with pretty decor, friendly staff and a sense of humour. Value for money, dead impressed, thanks again ????p.s. if the batter is vegan I would imagine a courgette/mushroom supper would be a lovely and popular dinner for your plant based customers, and I see you have vegetarian options too ??Vegetarian options: Pasta, halloumi, courgette fritters, portobello mushrooms, chips with cheese/gravy (there might be other things that I didn't notice).Kid-friendliness: They have a great selection of kids' meals at lower prices for a smaller portion but a good amount for kids.

As my wife laments, I’m painfully fussy when it comes to a chippy. But this place is really knocking it out the park. The Tawny clearly take pride in putting together a great plate of food. It’s well thought out and seems to get better each time I visit. The fish is fresh and cooked to order and the batter is something special: light, crispy and not in the slightest bit greasy. The chips are perfect chippy chips - soft fluffy potatoes and just the right level of crispy-ness. Portions sizes are spot on - generous but not too big that you’re wasting food and, I think, pretty good value for the price. The staff are always lovely too. I’ve been to a lot of chip shops across the country and this place is up there with the best. Surely only a matter of time before the Tawny gets some award recognition. A great asset for this wee town.Vegetarian options: My wife’s veggie. On request, they’ll cook some chips in separate oil (i.e. not in the same oil they cook the meat and fish). A small but thoughtful gesture for veggies who fancy some proper chippy chips.

Great fish and chips but you have to wait until they are ready. Downside- you're hanging about, upside- you know your supper is super fresh and batter is crispy! We go here in preference to our local chippy that's 4 mins away! And it's cheaper too!!

Really great food. Especially the fish. Not the cheapest, but I'd say price reflected in quality.
