lovely hotel, owner and staff very welcoming and food was excellent and all at a decent price. Breakfast and evening meal good choice. Clean rooms with lovely bedding and big en suite shower room. Would recommend and stay again.

Went for Sunday lunch but no Sunday lunch available. So had hunters chicken with sauce. Meal on verge of unedible sauce was from packet congealed disgusting. reheated roast potatoes and hard veg reheated . Chicken cooked was bright spot but dry . £38 pound for two meals don’t go .

What a stay. Stayed 3 nights, and knowing the hotel well, are very happy with everything. Sugarth and his family are lovely, and Gladys is so helpful, friendly and hard working. Food was lovely, and hospitality was first class. Brechin as a whole seems quiet, but the Northern, and every member of staff made our visit exceptionally good. Will definitely be back. Thank you all.

The venue was booked for friends and family to come together after my mothers funeral. A very small selection of uninspiring sandwiches, small sausage rolls and small cakes were provided with tea and coffee- for £14.95 per person! Service was not brilliant either. Sadly we didn’t know any better but I would recommend people avoid this venue, it was expensive and poor quality.

I haven't stayed, only went for a drink and a meal. The family running the hotel are lovely and the Asian food is excellent! There's also a place sit outside, which is handy for smokers (and sun-lovers!) I'll be coming here regularly as I live locally.

Went for a meal with family friend, it wasn't great. Not good quality food but charging good quality prices.. It looks a bit run down, carpet straps not properly fixed in several places.. Needs good refurbishment.. Won't be returning

Great food, the staff are very friendly, dog friendly hotel with an extensive menu ranging from Scottish food to Thai food. Nothing is too much for the team at the nothern hotel. Good options for drinks soft drinks and alcoholic. Sugath and his team are fabulous.

Xmas lunch. No xmas decor at all could have been anytime off year. Not a Christmasy feel at all. Service was not good very slow. Meal ok. Nothing startling Main course turkey etc was ok food cool not hot. Xmas pudding very hot. Micro wave must have been working !! Indiviual puddings not made in hotel I reckon. Had to ask for water 3times Poor service would not recommend. Dont know if they heard our comments. But we were given shots baileys or similiar. After we had to ask for coffee. Usual coffee biscuits. No xmas fudge or choc. Nothing was offered

We dine out several times a month and can honestly say this was the worst meal we’ve had. Soup was inedible, steak pie was minuscule and very very bland. The hotel was very run down with dirty carpets, however the toilets were clean.

Visited today for lunch with family and had such a nice experience. We were warmly welcomed at reception when we arrived and shown politely through to the restaurant. The atmosphere was so relaxing and the food was amazing! The batter on the Fish was one of the best I’ve ever had and the whisky sauce on the Highland Chicken was first class! Our waitress Alana definitely deserves a mention…she was so friendly, efficient and attentive and nothing was a bother for her. The toilets were very clean, as was whole place and we would definitely go back.

I have a lot of sympathy for the manager of this hotel. He has worked here for several years and has taken over as manager. Quite frankly he is struggling to keep business going after lock down. It must be soul destroying when you are bringing up a young family. The hotel is the main hotel in Brechin, Which is a small town off the main tourist route, but that said if you are exploring the area it’s a lovely place to visit. Yes, the hotel is run down, but it’s very clean and has lovely staff. The breakfasts were good, well cooked and served. The shower great, bed was OK. As a sole female traveler I felt safe and looked after with personal attention. The price for one person was a bit expensive, but to be honest most hotels in Scotland at expensive. The bar and food prices were very reasonable. Please don’t judge on the bad reviews, and keep your expectation in check. Brechin is a lovely place, quiet and has a lot to offer the visitor. Give the Northern Hotel a chance - I hope you also be charmed by its Scottish hospitality which meets the Sirlankan code of conduct.

I stayed for six nights, the rooms were clean and tidy. The staff were very polite and friendly. My stay was bed and breakfast, the breakfast was very good. I also had dinner on a few night and the food was very good. In this day and age of high cost of living, the price I paid was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in this lovely town of Brechin.

Didn't even get to stay the night I'd booked. Verbally and physically assaulted by the manager/owner. Called police. Something very wrong about the whole atmosphere, tawdry, nasty part of town. Was surprised having come to Arbroath and Montrose where all was well.

Very run down and shabby, tiny bed full of lumps and springs popping out everywhere, mattress really needs changing it was so uncomfortable. Shower sprayed everywhere with a huge crack in the tray. One towel between 2 !!!!! Just not a good experience, would be better to shut down and give it a right good clean. Weeds everywhere in the carpark could be doing with a bit of a spruce up doesn't cost much to tidy up very off putting before you even cross the thresshold. Was quite expensive for what you received definitively not worth the money paid even half would be too much.
